Canine Review: The Working Group of the Dog World

Dogs from the Working Group are truly man’s best friends. This group can be credited for helping man explore the world, fight in battles, rescue people, ranch and farm. Without this group, homes and flocks would not have been protected and men would have been forced to tote their own supplies.

The Working Group of today is no different than their ancestors. They will gladly pitch in to help. These dogs work magnificently as guide dogs, search and rescue dogs, scent dogs for the military and police, guard dogs, and as working hands on the family farm or ranch. These dogs are fiercely loyal to their owners. They will gladly bark out a warning to anyone or anything that intrudes into their territory or threatens harm to family and home.

Dogs in the Working Group have a wide range of personalities. For instance, the Akita is not considered a fawning or cuddly dog, but they do work well inside a home as they do not lean toward barking or pacing. The Boxer thrives on human contact and wants to be by their owner’s side. They are very enthusiastic and like to play. The Doberman Pinscher is a free thinker and fearless. This dog will gladly welcome other pets into the home. This breed works best with an owner who is consistent and patient. The Mastiff is a very calm and docile breed when bred properly. These dogs live in peace with other pets. In fact, it is not out of the ordinary for a smaller dog to boss around a Mastiff.

While the Working Group can be perfectly happy not being productive, you do need to give them a sense of purpose. Letting them pull children in a sled across the yard, hiding a smelly treat for them to find, or letting them swim are all favorite activities for this group. Before purchasing a dog from this group, carefully research the breed’s instinct and history. Make sure a dog you purchase from the Working Group will fit into your lifestyle. The American Kennel Club, The United Kennel Club and The Canadian Kennel Club are wonderful resources if you wish to learn more about the Working Group. You can learn about each breed, as well as gain access to the National Breed Club and Classifieds.
