Shopping Steals in Southern Pittsburgh

Vintage and retail shops are in demand more now than ever. Fashion magazines all over such as “Glamour” show what you can find upon scavenging through them. Often, magazines will show a celebrity wearing an expensive detailed boho top and then next to it have a similar piece found at a vintage retail store for a ridiculously less amount. I personally, have always had a love for these shops. But now, I have found one that is worth making sure you stop back.

Located on Millers Run Rd. in Cecil, Pennsylvania, there’s a pink building with a little shop called “Before & More.” My mother is who first introduced me to this quaint and cozy place. It had been a while since I’d had the pleasure of visiting one of these stores, so I was a little bit excited, but did not want to be set up for a let down, either. When I walked in, the door made a ding, and we were kindly greeted by the owner. She stood behind the counter marking tags on some of the new clothing that had come in.

My mom and I started off first by moving off to the left and starting at the beginning. A lot of the items on the racks are put into categories according to size, and color. I searched through the black tops, size medium. There was a perfect condition Banana Republic button down! “This is better than I’d thought”, I said to my mom. She, on the other hand, found great outfits for work consisting of blazers with skirt sets. Excitedly, we both went through most of the racks to make sure we did not miss out on any good deals. The owner also told us the “cut off date,” which is a date she tells you and if you find an item you want, if the date on the tag is from before the “cut off date” the item is half off. Upon hearing this, my mom checks her suits and sees that 2 out of 3 of them were from before the “cut off date” and were only $8.00 each!

Moving along towards the back of the shop, it turns out to be a lot bigger than it looks from outside. There are two little dressing rooms in the back that make you feel right at home. Then, as you go across the back there’s a table set out with a bunch of trinkets, and home decorations on it. Next, there’s a bookshelf with a variety of books and some movies, also. In the next room, there are more home items and along the wall are purses and shoes. Almost every single time I go there, I find a great purse in mint condition. Most of the time brand name, too.

Before & More is one of the best retail shops I have ever been to, and that I actually enjoy. The people there are very nice, there are no strange smells, and it is kept clean and comfortable. If you are in the area, stop in and look around, you won’t regret it. Also, when you’re done, you can go downstairs to “The PBJ Market Cafe” for a bite to eat.
