The Best Margarita Recipe

With summer just around the corner, most of us are looking forward to barbeques and parties with friends. One of the most instrument things in making these events go smoothly is, well, alcohol. It is, after all, the social lubricant. At the top of my summer drink list is the margarita. In honor of summer and the beginning of party season, I’d like to share some tips and tricks so that you can make killer margaritas all summer long.

Let’s start with what you need for a basic ‘rita. First, you need to have the right glasses. Wide-mouthed margarita glasses work best, though you can use regular glasses, you just have to be extra careful not to disturb the salt on the rim. This leads us to the second thing you’ll need: two saucers or bowls wide and shallow enough to allow you to dip the rim of your glasses. First, dip the rim in tequila. Then, dip the rim in kosher salt, covering the entire rim. You may also want to make sure there’s a little extra on the outside to make it look better. Now for the important part, the margarita itself. You’ll need two ounces each of fresh lime juice, white tequila, and Triple Sec, and about eight ice cubes. Pour all ingredients into the blender and pulse until the mixture has reached the desired consistency, about like a slushee. Pour margaritas into prepared glasses and enjoy. This recipe makes about four Ã?¾ cup drinks, but you can always make multiple batches, especially since crushed ice tends to melt quickly.

For truly amazing margaritas, try flavoring them with fresh fruit. One of the best is the Mango margarita. For this, all you need to do is add about half a cup of peeled, sliced mango to the Classic Margarita recipe. Garnish with a slice of mango or a lime wedge and your drink will not only taste wonderful, but look great as well.

Another spin on the classic is the Strawberry Margarita. Like the Mango ‘Rita, the Strawberry Margarita is a refreshing twist on the original. Add one cup of frozen strawberries and four ounces of a frozen limeade concentrate to the Classic recipe, and you’ll be in heaven. You may want to add a little extra tequila to these, though, because the strawberries tend to overpower its flavor.

Adding a little Italian flair to the mix is always a big hit at parties. That’s why I’m including a recipe I came across for Italian Margaritas. That’s right, folks, Italian Margaritas! This one is quite a bit different from a plain jane ‘rita. You’ll need three cups of ice, three ounces of water, one ounce of triple sec, two ounces of amaretto, three ounces of tequila, and six ounces of frozen lemonade concentrate. Blend all the ingredients until the mixture resembles that of a frozen margarita.

Whichever way you go with the recipe, you may need a little help to make margaritas for a crowd. I have found two machines I think would be great for larger get-togethers. One is the Wave Power Blender from Hamilton Beach. It holds sixteen ounces, which equals roughly twenty-one margaritas. This is about five times the amount the above recopies make. For even bigger bashes, try a commercial machine, like the Crathco model 3311 or the Taylor model 430 margarita machines. These machines are rented by Margarita Adventures, based in North Texas. The company offers free delivery and set up, as well as clean up. They will even mix your drinks for you and get the machine going before the party begins! On top of that, they bring their own cups and straws. What more can a hostess ask for? Their internet special for rentals is $85. They can be found at http://www.margaritaadventrures.com/rent.html or at (972) 675-1884 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Be sure to ask for the internet special when you call!

I don’t know about you folks, but I’m ready to break out the blender and head for Margarita-ville. Whatever your ‘rita of choice, you can be sure to make it perfectly every single time with the right equipment. Whether you’re making a few for a small get-together or renting a commercial machine you’re sure to make a splash with the Perfect Margarita!
