Fine Art Pregnancy Photos

Back in 1991, Demi Moore posed nude while seven months pregnant. She was one of the few people who could do such a thing and get away with it. Now, however, hundreds of women are following suit 15 years later. Are they going to be splashed across magazine covers? Probably not. But they are enjoying their changing bodies and documenting the changes that their bodies experience during pregnancy.

The idea is to capture pregnancy through the camera lens, and turn it into fine art. In a world where consumers are looking for unique ways to express themselves, as well as save their memories, photography sessions can help one experience the joys of childbirth. With celebrities having babies, and flaunting their bodies while they do it, pregnancy is no longer something that women try to hide underneath large clothing. The pregnant form is experiencing a reinvention as something almost glamorous. And plenty of women want to take the opportunity to document their pregnancies, and to show how much they love themselves – and how beautiful a body brimming with new life can be.

Photographers like Jennifer Loomis (http://www.jenniferloomis.com) do not simply offer glorified family snapshots. These pictures are considered fine art. Pregnancy photographers use black and white to add a feeling of sophistication. They offer sessions where the woman feels comfortable and natural – and like a model. A relaxing atmosphere coupled with beautiful fabrics and the opportunity to pose in ways that accentuate the attractiveness of pregnancy. Loomis even offers “Babymoon” packages. In Seattle and San Francisco women can enjoy spa treatments, dinner, and a photo shoot. Loomis also travels to New York City to take photos.

But fine art does not come cheap, and neither do pregnancy photos in such a style. Some sessions with pregnancy photographers start at $600 and only go up from there. So, who can afford such a thing? And why is it becoming popular now? The answer probably lies in the fact that women are waiting until they are older to have children. This means that many of them have established careers and more disposable income. Plus, when one is older, greater maturity allows more reflection on what having a child actually means. And many women are interested in preserving these memories in a stylish way. After all, there is nothing embarrassing about displaying fine art in your home. Perhaps you are more willing to share your memories when they look glamorous, rather than simply showing pictures of a frumpy pregnant woman in sweats.
