Five Diaper Bag Essentials

Parents of babies and young children will know that a diaper bag is just one of those things that is a must have. Your diaper bag needs to contain all of the things you need for your child, or children, on outings. Here are five essential things no diaper bag should ever be without…

One…
What’s the first thing you think of as being in a diaper bag? Diapers! That’s right. Always put at least four diapers into your diaper bag before leaving. This will ensure that your baby will have enough changes during the time you are away from home. What goes with diaper that is an essential? Wipes, of course. Wipes are a must have in the diaper bag, right along with diapers. If your child still has a diaper bag but has outgrown the diapers think undies. Throw an extra pair or two of fresh undies in the diaper bag in case of accidents.

Two…
A change of clothes. Messes happen. Spills occur. Babies spit-up. Always remember to bring at least one complete change of clothes for your child, or children. This way, if an accident, or spill, or spit-up should occur you’ll be prepared.

Three…
Bottles, meals, snacks, and/or drinks. If you are going to be going out for a while it is a good idea to make sure to bring enough bottles for baby, or food for your children. Kids are always hungry. Having a snack and a drink can keep them held over until you arrive back home. It can also keep them from saying “Can we go to McDonald’s?” one hundred and one times while your driving.

Four…
A first aid kit. Your kit should contain the basic first aid items, such as band-Aids, a thermometer, fever reducer, antibacterial cream, antihistamine, and such. It’s a good idea to write emergency numbers like poison control, (1-800-222-1222), on a small piece of paper that can be kept in your kit for easy retrieval if needed. It is also a good idea to toss in a folded up plastic bag in case you have soiled items, or a motion sick child. It is always best to be prepared.

Five…
Toys or games. Toys and games. Kids need to be occupied while in the car or they tend to get restless and bored. Irritable kid can make it very hard for you to get to your destination safely. Before you leave have your children pick out a few toys or game that they can take along for the trip. For baby, use toys that hook right to the car seat itself so that when baby throws them they are still in his or her reach! This will help to keep the kids content until you arrive back home. Content kids are happy kids. Happy kids make for happy parents!
