Know the Cause of Acne

If you are suffering from acne, or simply interested in it, you will probably want to start out with finding what causes this problem. The answer to this question is not quite as simple as it should be. There are many different things that can cause acne, and each one is treated in a different way.

The number one cause of acne is puberty. When you are going through puberty your hormone levels will sky rocket which will in turn cause some people to break out with acne on their face. High hormone levels cause the skin glands to produce more oil which is meant to protect the skin and prevent it from drying out. The problem is that while this protection is going on, the increased oil levels are also causing your pores to become clogged. When the oil mixes with dead skin cells pores become clogged, and acne begins to push its way to the surface.

But puberty is not the only thing that can cause acne. In fact, adult acne is also very common and is caused by a number of different factors. Certain medications can cause acne in adults, but this is not that big of a problem. Adult acne that is caused by medications can often be rid of by simply stopping the medication.

Something that can cause acne, but is not really in your control is pollution. Pollution and smoke can cause your pores to get clogged, and if you can avoid this then you are more likely to have clean, unclogged pores.

Acne can also be caused by different skin products such as make-up. You should never use make-up that is oil based, but instead use water based make-up that will not clog your pores. Oil based make-ups can leave your pores clogged and cause break outs. If you do use this type of make-up it is important not to sleep with it on, and even more important to gently wash your face to unclog your pores as soon as you can.

Another thing that can cause acne is clothing or sporting equipment. These two things can rub and cause friction on the skin, which will in turn cause a break out. This means that it is important to have clothing or equipment that breathes and does not create friction. For example, it is important when wearing a hat to make sure it is not too tight. If you wear a hat that is too tight, you may get acne on your forehead due to excessive friction and sweating.

Also, there are a few rare conditions that affect the endocrine system that can cause acne. This includes Cushing’s syndrome and polycystic ovary syndrome. In order to find out if you are suffering from one of these conditions you will need to visit a doctor that specializes in the endocrine system.

Overall, there are many different things that can cause acne. If you are having a hard time pinpointing what is causing your problem you will want to see a doctor or dermatologist.
