Pert Plus: The Perfect Shampoo for Kids

I’m a big fan of the Loreal Kids products, especially the strawberry shampoo. Since using Loreal the first time we’ve not switched shampoos once for our 4 year old. It’s a frustrating task for me weed through the different shampoos to find the perfect one for my daughter’s hair (her hair is extremely prone to tangles, and while some shampoos claim to fight tangles, they don’t always work). Anyway, I came across Pert Plus Shampoo Conditioner for Kids – Bananaberri after my mother suggested giving it a try. I used to love Pert Plus myself, and figured it couldn’t hurt to give the kid’s version a try. I bought the kid version for 2.39 at a local grocery store.

Pert Plus Shampoo Conditioner for Kids – Banaberri

As far as appearance, this bottle couldn’t get anymore appealing to a child’s eyes. The bottle is the typical green color of all the other Pert Plus products, but on the front there is a cartoon banana and a strawberry on a surf board. Both fruits are wearing sunglasses and surfing under a blue cartoon wave. Both are grinning broadly and throwing their hands out (yep, they both have hands, arms, and feet). Procter & Gamble (makers of Pert) did a wonderful job in my opinion of making getting hair washed look cool and fun. The top of the bottle can be twisted off it needed, but there is also a flip top used to dispense the shampoo. The bottle contains 13.5 fl. ounces of shampoo.

Directions for Pert Plus Kids is basically the same directions as any other shampoo. Gently squeeze shampoo onto wet hair and lather thoroughly. Rinse and repeat is desired.

What Pert Plus Kids promises

Pert Plus Shampoo Conditioner for Kids – Bananaberri promises that this is the perfect shampoo for all of children’s shampooing needs. The shampoo promises a tear free cleaning plus conditioning for soft and manageable hair. They also claim to be PH balanced, which means the shampoo is gentle enough to be used daily. Last, Pert promises to leave hair “berry soft” with the scents of bananas and strawberries.

Our experience with Pert Plus Kids

When first opening, I noticed the flip top was a bit difficult to pop open. However, I see this as a good thing in case of spills. Once I opened the shampoo, I could immediately smell the banana smell. The banana smell was so overwhelming that it practically drowned out any smell of berries. Once the shampoo was on my daughter’s hair, I did detect a light trace of a berry smell.

The shampoo was/is extremely thick and quickly worked into a good lather. There were bubbles everywhere and the banana smell still outweighed the berry smell. While rinsing, there didn’t seem to be any problem at all. The shampoo rinsed away nicely which surprised because of how thick it is.

My daughter’s hair was left nice and soft and I combed through it easily. I smell a light trace of berry but more banana than anything. What I have liked the most though is the next day my daughter had a rough day of playing outside for hours in the sun and dirt. When she came in, dirty as she was, her hair still smelled extremely clean (more like bananas again) and extremely shiny.

Final Recommendation

Not only does this shampoo soften and clean, the shine and softness last longer on my daughter’s hair than any other shampoo we have used. I am still a Loreal fan, but Loreal now has competition. Although I won’t replace Loreal entirely, I will be using Pert Plus Shampoo Conditioner for Kids – Bananberri regularly as well. Therefore, I recommend this shampoo to anyone really (even adults as I tried it myself and it works wonderfully on adult hair as well).
