Feigning Disinterest

Let’s assimilate our masks
So it looks like we’ve attended the same party,
And build a house of manuscripts
As unscripted as a real conversation.

Let’s win at losing.
How great we are to surpass the evil we create!
Our crimes serve to verify our innocence and worth –
I may just take a life tonight.

This man is unaffected;
Is he sitting this one out?
In case he is feigning disinterest,
The race for second place quickens.

One number drifts into the phone,
The outcast finds solace in solitude, and
The remainders of the shaken equation
Retire to their respective corners and recharge.
