Getting ready to inject your insulin is important and healthy. You will need a syringe and a needle. You will need a vial of insulin, an alcohol swab and you will need to wash your hands with soap and water. After washing your hands with soap and water, use the alcohol swap to clean the body area you will inject the insulin to. You will also need to clean the top of the insulin vial. If you are using cloudy insulin roll the vial between your fingers so it will heat up to room temperature and this will cause less discomfit when given at room temperature.

Now you are ready to get the syringe ready for the injection. Take a hold of the syringe and pull the syringe plunger to the amount of the advised insulin amount level. An important point is always use the amount the physician has prescribed. Put the needle through the rubber stopper of the insulin vial and push the plunger so the air goes into the vial. Leave the needle in the vial and then turn the vial upside down with the syringe and pull the syringe plunger down past the marker of the exact amount of the dose of insulin you need. You will need to check the syringe for any air bubbles. If any air bubbles are present in the syringe flick the syringe and then push the syringe up so the air bubbles are pushed out of the syringe. This should leave the correct amount of insulin in the syringe.

After taking the syringe needle out of the vial you are ready for the injection of insulin into your body. You have cleaned the injection area so you will need to pinch up the skin and quickly push the needle into the pinched up skin. You will need to push the plunger all the way in to inject the insulin beneath the pinched up skin. After all the insulin has been injected remove the syringe and if bleeding occurs around the injection area, apply slight pressure but do not rub. Rubbing the area of the injection could cause the absorption of the insulin at a more rapid rate than intended. Dispose of needles either in a certified needle disposal unit or a can but make sure it is taped heavily as not to expose the public to used needles.

The areas of the body that are recommended by physicians to inject insulin into the body are the stomach, the arms, and the legs.
