Famous Women in History: Ideas for Reports

When your child enters the 4th Grade he/she must start writing book reports, reports on certain topics, essays, and more. As the grade gets higher he/she will begin writing more and more reports. Here are some report ideas for famous women in history.

Margaret Corbin

Margaret Corbin stood and watched as her husband John Corbin fought in a battle in the Revolutionary War. John Corbin was gunned down and killed right in front of Margaret Corbin. Margaret ran out on the battlefield, picked up her husband’s gun, and began firing back. Margaret Corbin was then wounded too. She was wounded pretty badly but she did not die. The Congress gave Margaret Corbin a Soldier’s Pension in order to honor her for what she did.

Dicey Langston

Dicey Langston was a successful spy during the Revolutionary War. Dicey Langston lived in South Carolina. At the age of 15, Dicey was doing her everyday farm chores when she noticed the British Troops had set up a camp right beside her father’s farm. While Dicey Langston was doing her everyday farm chores, she took notes of the supplies that the British had to fight with. She also counted how many British were in that group. Once she had counted all of the British and took note of their supplies, she passed on what she knew to the Americans.

Lydia Darragh

Lydia Darragh served dinner to the British. The British didn’t think anything about Lydia Darragh being there and were discussing their next military moves. They discussed these plans over dinner while Lydia served them and the entire time Lydia was making mental notes of what they were saying. Later she wrote down everything she had heard on pieces of paper. She then sewed the papers to the inside of her dress and smuggled them to General George Washington.

Sybil Ludington

Sybil Ludington was 16 years old when she received word that the British had reached Danbury, Connecticut. Sybil rode her horse to the country and told the minutemen “The British are burning Danbury”. Four hundred minutemen ran the British back to their ships. Sybil Ludington is honored with a statue in Carmel, New York. Sybil was also placed on the US stamp in 1975, to honor her.

Clara Barton

Clara Barton was known as the “Angel of the Battlefield”. Clara Barton was a nurse during the Civil War. At first the men didn’t trust her and didn’t won’t her help. Eventually they came around and then she was known as the “Angel of the Battlefield”. Clara Barton was also the founder of The Red Cross.

Molly Brown

Molly Brown
was the only passenger on the Titanic that survived. Molly boarded the Titanic to go see her grandson who had fell ill. Molly helped many passengers as the Titanic was sinking because of her big heart and the many languages that she spoke.

Rear Admiral Grace Hopper

Rear Admiral Grace Hopper also known as “Amazing Grace” was the oldest Navy Member on Active Duty at the time of her retirement. She was 80 years old when she retired from the Navy in 1986. Grace Hopper had many accomplishments during the years she was in the Navy. Grace Hopper died in 1992 and was buried in Arlington.
