Unique Kitchen Decorating Ideas- Decorating with a Fruit Theme

Many people decorate with fruit when changing their kitchen’s dÃ?©cor, but it does not have to be the same old boring theme. This article will discuss how to incorporate a fruit theme into your kitchen without it looking like everyone else’s.

One great way to create unique kitchen dÃ?©cor is to pick only one fruit and build off that in terms of color and accessories. Apples, for instance, come in green, red and yellow. Now, you could go with the standard red and buy all of the accessories that are available but why stop there? There are color matching services at almost any paint store where you can bring one of each type of apple in and have the exact color made. You can go crazy with this or subtle. Paint your walls the more mellow yellow color and your trim in the bright red or green. Or vice versus. Paint your furniture with all three- either drawing designs of the apples themselves, or using the popular “crackle” technique to layer each color separately. If you are re-doing your countertops and/or floors you can incorporate these three colors into their designs as well. Using colors and textures that remind people of the fruit is a great way to incorporate this theme uniquely. This method can also be used for any other fruit, from the popular grape trend, which also come in different colors, to something unique like the different shades of ripeness that a banana goes through.

If you cannot find artwork which matches, there are many ways for you to create your own even if you do not have the artistic ability to draw or paint. One example of this would be to take a clear picture of the fruit in a pretty bowl and have it blown up to your specifications and hang it above your table. Place that exact bowl in the center of your table with the fruit in it and you have an instant center and conversation piece. Another cheap artwork alternative is to frame old ads or some of the attractive new advertisements from magazines. You can frame one single ad or make a collage of many.

Next, search thrift stores, antique shops and auction places for your accessories instead of your local department store. Old fruit labels of your choice can be used to decoupage cheap tiles for your backsplash. Old canning jars can be used as small canisters, soap dispensers and other miscellaneous containers. Many older glass serving platters and plate sets have engravings of fruit in them which, when displayed in a lighted cabinet or on a wall shelf can add an instant touch of elegance to your d©cor.

It is also important to remember that the biggest impact can be made in the tiniest of details. For example, purchasing little glass fruit beads to add to your chandelier or installing matching cabinet knobs and drawer pulls can make all the difference when redoing a room. Other small elements that can make a world of difference include light switch plates, paper towel holders, spoon rests and blind or fan pulls.

To finish off your fruit theme, go to your local discount store and buy some simple dishtowels that coordinate with the different colors of your room and while you’re there go ahead and indulge yourself with a few of the cute new accessories available if they complete your room.

Uniquely decorating your kitchen using a popular theme, such as fruit, can be a challenging task. But it is possible to have a distinctive look, even while utilizing a trendy idea.
