Planning a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

Theme – The rehearsal theme does not have to complement the wedding theme. In fact, some couples prefer choosing very different colors. For this matter, if the wedding colors are red and black, and the occasion formal, you may opt for a playful rehearsal theme. For example, have the rehearsal theme on the oceanfront and adopt a beach or Hawaiian theme. Another option may entail having a cultural theme. This is perfect for multi-cultural marriages. Therefore the wedding ceremony can incorporate the bride’s culture, whereas the rehearsal dinner integrates the groom’s cultural background.

Location – When planning a rehearsal dinner, do not wait until the last minute to book the reservation. Because men are primarily responsible for this event, it is common for some grooms to delay finding a location until a couple of weeks before the wedding. If you live in a small city or rural area with few events, waiting may not pose a problem. However, keep in mind that restaurants and small halls tend to book very quickly in larger suburban cities.

Plan the Guests List – The rehearsal dinner is not intended to be a gathering for all invitees. For the most part, this dinner is reserved for out-of-town guests and the wedding party. If the majority of your family is traveling from a different location, limit attendance to only the wedding party and parents. Decide how many people you can afford to invite. If the rehearsal dinner is being hosted at a restaurant, guests should not be obligated to pay for their own meals.

Choose Decorations – Decorations for a rehearsal dinner can be very simple. You may opt for a few flower arrangements and a couple of balloons. If the rehearsal dinner is themed, inform guests in advance so they can dress appropriately. Also, this is the perfect time for the bride and groom to present gifts to members of the wedding party.

Discuss Details – Once everyone has completed their meal, use this time to discuss any last minute wedding details. Notify the bridal party of designated times to arrive at the wedding ceremony and so forth. If possible, conclude the party early. This way, the soon-to-be-married couple can relax before the big day.
