Choosing the Right Ceiling Fan Light Fixture

Ceiling fans can be the answer to high energy costs during the summer months but special consideration should be given when choosing a ceiling fan because many of them have light fixtures installed but not all are energy efficient.

Ceiling fans tend to be purchased for one of two reasons, either to add air circulation or to replace existing light fixtures. Most people want both since many times when installing a ceiling fan it will replace the light fixture. Most ceiling fans are designed with built-in or integrated lighting. This is when the lighting comes already installed and ready to be hooked up with your fan. Ceiling fan manufacturers also give customers a choice of ceiling fans without light fixtures however these tend to be harder to find these days. The overwhelming desire for most appears to be a ceiling fan with a light already attached.

There are more than thirty different styles of light fixtures and fitters today. There is also a wide selection of decorative glass one can order to distinguish your lighting from anyone else’s. The trend today seems to be of a more elegant style however in the 70’s the aim was decorative glass so what ever your taste it seems that you will be able to find it.

One of the nice things about ceiling fan lighting is that these days much of it is interchangeable. You can purchase a certain type of lighting for your ceiling fan and then if you decide to go in a different direction with your decorating you may change the fixtures. One thing to remember however is that you will need to choose the same manufacturer to ensure the finish matches if you decide to change your lighting on your ceiling fan. Colors of the finish and connections to the fan itself are considerations when purchasing a different lighting type than what can with the fan.

It is also important that you consider the style you are aiming for within the room where your ceiling fan is going before choosing the lighting type. Some rooms need more light and your ceiling fan should address that, especially since many times the lighting on the ceiling fan will be the only light in the room. One option you can choose when considering the type of lighting however is to think about installing a dimmer switch on your ceiling fan light. This would allow you to control the lighting in the room.

Which ever ceiling fan or ceiling fan lighting you choose take special care in selecting the right fixtures for the room you are considering. Although many people never consider lighting, it can make or break a room.
