How to Ease Your Dog’s Excessive Barking

All dogs bark, it’s a way for them to communicate with each other and with you. Some bark less than others while others seem to bark all day long. If your dog barks when the leaves fall, at insects, at the car, every time the mailman or anyone else for that matter that they see, there are things you can do to get some peace and quiet. And perhaps pass these tips along to your neighbor whose dog seems to have entered into a barking contest. One way to ease your dogs’ excessive barking is to give them attention. Some dogs stay outside all the time chained, while their owner is at work, when you come home make sure you spend some quality time with Fido they deserve it since they’ve been watching your property all day and night. Also, how would you feel if you were chained and someone visited you every once in awhile, you would start making a lot of noise too. Remember, dogs love affection and attention.

The next way to ease excessive barking is to take your dog for a walk, let him venture out. If you notice, you rarely see a dog bark while they are out on a nice walk. It preoccupies them, plus after a nice long walk they may be too tired to bark. Give your pet something to play with to occupy their time – toys, bones, anything that will get their mind off of barking. Plus, gnawing on their favorite toy or bone can relieve some frustration if they are chained all day. Another thing you can do to ease the barkingÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½is before you leave for the day, rub your scent over their toy or bone so they can have something to remind them of you. They wont’ feel as lonely if they have your scent with them all day.

Another way to ease your dog’s barking is to acknowledge them by talking to them. Your dog maybe trying to tell you something so answering them can be one way to stop them from barking. If communication doesn’t work, walk away from your dog, like some people, if you ignore them while they are having a talking spell,Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½barking in this case, they may realize no one is paying attention and stop. Firm words like “no”, “quiet”, or “stop” may stop the barking also. If they stop barking give them a treat and pet them this lets them know that they don’t have to bark, plus the treat will get their mind off of whatever is making them bark. Finally, if nothing else works you can try using a gentle pressure collar to ease your dog’s excessive barking. It’s similar to halters worn by horses. When your dog starts barking excessively, gently pull the leash close to their mouth. However, only use this if your dog is barking excessively. Barking is a natural way of communicating for dogs, so don’t try to discourage them from doing something that is natural for them, it wouldn’t work anyway. You wouldn’t want someone to put a cover over your mouth every time you try to speak.

What is your dog trying to tell you.
