Great Camping Meals and Recipes

The next time you go camping, you can plan meals beyond the basic boring weenie roast. As a matter of fact, you can have almost gourmet meals with a little beforehand preparation. Almost any meal that you like can be turned into a camping meal. When you want to adapt a recipe for the campfire, consider recipes that are easy to put together, requires only a handful of ingredients and have easy clean up.

Here are some easy and delicious meals you can prepare during your next camping trip:

Breakfast foods:

Eggs:
Any seasoned camper will tell you the secret of delicious eggs for a quick meal in the morning. All you need are a couple of eggs per camper, favorite omelets ingredients such as cheese, ham, onions and mushrooms, salt and pepper to taste and quart size Ziploc bags. When you are ready to cook breakfast, boil a large pot of water over the open flame. Crack a couple of eggs in each bag and add your favorite ingredients. Carefully seal the bag and squeeze out as much of the air as you can and shake well. Place the bag inside the boiling pot of water until the eggs are set-usually about 5 to 8 minutes. Pour out onto a plate and you have quick and mess-free omelets.

Breakfast Sandwich:
Before you leave on your trip, make a breakfast sandwich and wrap in foil. You can make these out of English muffins, toast or even bagels. Pile bacon, sausage, cooked eggs, cheese or any other ingredients you like. When you are out camping, you can throw these sandwiches that are wrapped in foil on the flame to heat. This is a great way to enjoy a nutritious, but fast breakfast on your next camping trip.

Biscuits on a Stick:
You can be certain that everyone, including the kids will love this easy breakfast camping meal. All you need is a can of biscuits, squeezable butter and a stick. When you get ready to cook, take one biscuit and flatten it out. Wrap it around the end of a stick and place it several inches away from the fire. Cook until the biscuit is done, usually only a couple of minutes. Pull the biscuit off the stick and squeeze butter into the hole. You can also add honey or jam instead of butter. Get really creative by placing a little sausage link on the stick first, then wrapping the biscuit around the sausage. You now have pigs in a blanket, camping style.

Lunch and Dinner:

When you go camping, you will want to cook a meal that will stick to your ribs longer than a hot dog or a sandwich. Cooking over an open flame is half the fun of camping. Here are some yummy camping recipes for you to try:

Foiled Chicken:
You can assemble these before you leave and place them in a large Ziploc bag in a cooler. You will need one boneless skinless chicken breast per camper, salt and pepper to taste, your choice of fresh vegetables cut thin-you can use potatoes, bell peppers, onions or carrots, and Italian dressing. For one packet, place the chicken breast in the center of the foil. Add salt and pepper. Place the vegetables on top and then pour the dressing over the top. Wrap tightly. When you are ready to cook, place the packets in the flame and cook for about 15 minutes.

Quick Camper Stew:
For this recipe, you will need two cans of canned meat, such as ham or chicken, a jar of gravy, two cans of mixed vegetables, and one package of ramen noodle. Break the noodles into small pieces and add to pot. In a large pot, cook the noodles according to the package. When they are done, add the other ingredients until they are warm. That is it. You have a very quick and easy camper stew.
