Kids’ Activities in Cape May County

Has your Cape May County vacation gone on for so long that you’re starting to get tired of the beach and boardwalk? Do you need something to do with your kids to keep them from being cranky and miserable? Fortunately, there are plenty of great programs and activities for kids in the Cape May County area.

Historic Cold Springs village, a recreated colonial village located on Route 9 in Cape May, is hosting a summer kids’ program for children ages 7-11 this year entitled “Village Kids.” The program runs Thursdays and Fridays from July 6-28 and covers a variety of topics related to early American life, from metalworking to the one room school house. Each session, which is approximately three hours long, will include dressing up in period costumes, listening to a lesson from a historic interpreter, and making a craft related to the day’s topic. The Cape May County Museum, a local history museum also located on Route 9 in Cape May Court House, also offers a variety of kids’ activities and programs. In addition to regular, adult self-guided tour books, the museum has two different self-guided tours for kids: a seek and find book and a guide to peculiar artifacts. The Cape May County Museum also runs a kids club, through which they sponsor various kids’ activities each month. Not one for museums? Try heading over to the Cape May County Zoo. The zoo is open every day from 10:00-4:45 and is free to the public. From July 6 – August 31, the Cape May County Parks Department will be running “Fair Days” in the park by the entrance to the zoo. Fair days will include live music, educational activities for kids, crafters, and food. If you’re looking for more structured kids’ activities, try registering your kids for Zoo Camp. Opportunities for kids’ activities abound in Cape May County. Take the time to explore and you’ll find that there’s much more to do than simply go to the beach, boards, or putt-putt palace every single day.
