Make a Crib Mobile with Your Choice of Themes

Most parents add a mobile to the baby crib for entertainment, but if you want an unusual mobile, you’ll have a difficult time finding it at your local department store. If you search online, you can probably find something similar to what you want, but be prepared to pay big bucks for it.

A crib mobile is one thing you can often find at flea markets or yard sales, especially if you find a sale that’s featuring baby items. The only important thing is that the mobile motor is still working. If you can’t find a used mobile, check your local discount stores to find a very inexpensive one to use for this project.

Whether the mobile you purchase has little teddy bears on it, or just pillow shapes of stars and moons, you can make the mobile be exactly what you want after you work it over a little. Clip the old novelties off of the mobile and add your own. Depending upon how the crib mobile is made, it may be easier to clip the twine from the plastic apparatus, or it could be easiest to clip it from where it’s attached to the novelty.

When you make your own mobile you can have your choice of what you want dangling from the strings. Choose plastic cars, beanie babies, tiny dolls, rattles, bells – whatever you decide. Craft stores are jam-packed with all sorts of novelties, from tiny pillows to wooden items, to plastic shapes. Look around your local store for some great ideas.

If you’ve clipped the twine from the novelty, it’s a simple matter of reattaching the twine to the new toy. If you’ve clipped it from the plastic apparatus, use fishing twine to hang the new toys in place. Fishing twine is virtually unbreakable and very inexpensive.

If you can’t find a place to tie the twine onto the new toy, a dab of contact cement will attach the twine to just about any surface, like wood, plastic, ceramic, or even metal. Allow the contact cement to dry overnight before hanging the crib mobile.

Nowadays parents are very creative in decorating their new child’s nursery, and part of that decor is a fabulous crib mobile. Make it yourself and you can give it any theme you want. It’s also a great way to personalize the mobile as a gift for friends who are new parents. Think of a hobby or pastime that the parents enjoy, then make a crib mobile that will really impress.
