Acne Prevention and Treatment

Being a teenager is a tough time in life, and acne problems only make it worse. It’s almost impossible to have confidence when your face is full of blemishes. Most teenagers think that it’s just something they have to learn to deal with, but there are ways to treat acne and also ways to prevent it from happening at all!

Acne is the word we use for any pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads that appear on our faces, backs, and necks. There are many myths about why people get acne. Some of the most common ones are that acne is caused by eating greasy foods, drinking lots of soda, eating chocolate, or having dirty skin. These myths just are not true though. When a person reaches puberty, many hormones are produced that were not there previously. These hormones stimulate oil glands which cause the glands to become overactive. This is how most people get acne. However, you can also get acne if your body is not getting the vitamins it needs.

The best way to prevent acne is to consistently wash your face twice a day. This will get rid of the excess oil that is produced as well as dead skin. Dead skin can clog your pores and make your acne worse. When you wash your face, just make sure you don’t scrub too hard. Just be very gentle and use a mild soap. If you have been sweating a lot, make sure you wash your face because sweat can also clog your pores. Even though it is very important to wash your face, you need to be sure that you don’t wash it too much. If you do, it will dry out your skin and irritate any existing acne. Your skin does need some moisture to be healthy.

There are many over the counter medications that work well for some people. You will have to try different products to see which one helps your acne the best because each medicine is different and some of them probably won’t work for you. Everybody’s skin is a little different so the medicines can’t possibly work for everyone. Don’t get discouraged if you buy something and it doesn’t work. Just try something different.

When you get acne on your body, it is very tempting to just pop it or squeeze it. This is actually one of the worst things you can do though. When you squeeze a pimple, it pushes the infected matter deeper into your pore. This usually will make the acne much worse than it was in the first place. It will get red, swell up, and can even form a scar on your skin.

Acne takes time to go away, so don’t just expect it to be gone in a day. There are lots of products that advertise “fast acting” and “overnight results”. These are just schemes to get people to buy their medicine. Don’t believe any of this! It is very important that you get yourself on a healthy diet. If your body is getting all the nutrients it needs then your skin will be very healthy and you will be less likely to develop an acne problem. You should also drink lots of water because this is very good for your skin.

If you can’t seem to get your acne under control after doing all of this then you probably need to see a dermatologist. They will create a treatment for you that will be based around your skin type, age, and lifestyle. They can also give you prescription medications.

Once you try all of these things you will probably have found something that works for you. Make sure you get your acne under control as soon as you can because it can leave scars that will be with you for the rest of your life. However, be sure you remember that acne does not go away quickly.
