Endovenous Laser Treatment – New Minimally Invasive Treatment for Varicose Veins

Cathy Inman, a retail sales representative says, “varicose veins run in my family, mother, grand mother but ever since the birth of my first child 18 years ago mine have been much more pronounced much more painful much more, not just a cosmetic thing a painful thing where I have actually had people say. Oh wow what’s wrong with your legs.” Cathy is not alone. In fact according to the Society of Interventional Radiology, one out of every two Americans is suffering from varicose veins or some other form of venous insufficiency.

Doctors tell us that varicose veins are often painful they cause a number of different types of symptoms so it is not just a cosmetic need to have these treated it is a medical necessity. The traditional treatment for those with very bad varicose veins was a process called vein striping. This was a real surgical procedure; it needed to be done in a hospital under general anesthesia. The recovery time was several days to several weeks, and a patient faced all the risk factors that come with an invasive surgical procedure.

But a new medical procedure called the EVLT, or Endovenous Laser Treatment is changing all that. The EVLT, is a quick, minimally invasive procedure that uses pulsed laser light to treat varicose veins directly at their source. The procedure produces minimal discomfort and has been clinically proven to be 98% effective in most patients.

Cathy had the treatment done, and had this to say, “everything was great. Actually it was comfortable I didn’t have a lot of pain a lot of discomfort its was easy.” Studies have shown that patients who have received EVLT experience less post operative pain, and can soon return to their daily activities.

Physicians who use the EVLT and other laser and minimally invasive techniques in their practices agree that these minimally invasive procedures of which there are more and more as time goes on are revolutionizing medicine. They are taking a lot of the surgeries from the hospital since they are much safer to do and they can be done at out patient centers with no anesthesia and little or no discomfort.

Medical research is constantly developing ways to live healthier and look better longer. Today, advanced therapies such as Endovenous Laser Treatments are allowing millions of patients to see their legs – or any other part of the body – in a whole new light.
