Accident or Sucicide

Go to bed
Go to bed
Get another night’s sleep
Before tomorrow’s agenda
Leaves you sad and deep

She’s gone
Left you here alone
In this empty place
Where darkness pervades
Every nook and cranny-
Even the wrinkles in your face

You light a cigarette
But she’s not there
In the flickering light
So quickly extinguished;
You take a long drag,
Your mind too tired to fight

Sleep you find
As the cigarette drops
From your fingertips
Is it wish-fulfillment?
Or is the fiery hole in the mattress
Just one of those Freudian slips?
