Common Parenting Problems

Parenting is a skill that needs to be cultivated as you go. No matter the parenting style, there are problems you may incur. If you find the parenting styles you are currently using are not helping to reduce your parenting problems, you may seek help from friend, parenting web site, or even your children’s pediatrician. Some of the common parenting problems are easily remedied. Two of the most common parenting problems are bed-wetting and aggressive behavior. Bed-wetting is a common problem that occurs to many house holds. One of the easiest fixes for this is to limit the fluid intake of your child three to four hours before bed. During the day try a bladder training program. When your child has to urinate, have them hold it for a small amount of time to help them to develop bladder control. Bed-wetting can give your child a poor self image, especially if the child is older. Never use disciplinary actions for this because it may cause the problem to be worse.

Aggressive behavior may be a simple attention grabber or it may have deeper roots. When a child displays aggressive behavior, you need not take quick action unless they are posing harm to themselves or others. If they notice that they aren’t getting any attention for this behavior, it usually will resolve itself. In other instances you may need to consult your pediatrician to discuss your children’s behavior. Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder may be the cause to the aggressive behavior. These disorders are usually not able to be accurately diagnosed until the child becomes school aged. One of the ways to relieve parenting problems is to pay attention to you child. Small amounts of attention toward your child will cause much desired behaviors. Ask you child about their day. Hold their hand and give them hugs frequently throughout the day. Set clear boundaries with your child and be firm to stick to it. Studies have shown that children perform better when they follow a schedule. No matter the parenting problem, there is a solution. Parenting does not always come naturally, that is one of the reasons for child abuse. If you are unable to find the solution on your own, know that there are many resources out there to help.
