The New View: Star is Gone, So What is Next?

The new View

If you are a fan of the day time talk show THE VIEW, you all ready know that Star Jones Reynolds has been fired. You may have read the many stories in the newspapers and heard the ones on the other tabloid talk shows.

In her own statement Star reported that her troubles began as she prepared for her lavish 2004 wedding. That was when her agent was alerted that her numbers was going down. What numbers? Her popularity numbers with the fans.

Star Jones joined THE VIEW in the beginning, nine years ago. She was co host with host Meredith Vieira (who recently joined the Today show), creator Barbara Walters Debbie Matenopoulos and Joy Behar. Debbie left the show in 1999 and was replaced with Lisa Ling. Lisa was on the show from 1999-2002 and was then replaced by Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The premise of the show is supposed to be 5 ladies from different backgrounds, who are different ages who can debate issues and entertain the audience at the same time, while interviewing many wonderful celebrity guests.

Before starring on THE VIEW Star Jones was a lawyer and former prosecutor. Star debuted on television in 1991 as a legal commentator during the William Kennedy Smith rape trial. She then became the NBC legal correspondent reporting on such cases as the Mike Tyson rape case and Rodney King police brutality trial. This led her to her own syndicated show Jones & Jury and her position as chief legal analyst and senior correspondent for Inside Edition.

What will happen to THE VIEW now that Star is gone? Coming in September successful talk show host Rosie O’Donnell will join the ladies at the table. Until September, THE VIEW will have a number of guest hosts such as: Kellie Pickler (American Idol), Deborah Roberts (ABC News), Lara Spencer (The Insider), Kelly Rowland (Girlfriends) among many others. Of course, come August THE VIEW will take their normal hiatus before their big season debut in September.

Will they hire a new co host? Reports say maybe, maybe not. So far the guest hosts have been successful. Plus, people are noticing that Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck seem to be able to talk more now.

As for Star Jones Reynolds what does her future hold for her? It sounds like she has many choices. She has stated that she mulling over television offers, as well as developing her own line of jewelry, working as an advocate for foster kids and teaching middle school children in Harlem.

THE VIEW may have seen the last of Star Jones Reynolds. But the world hasn’t seen the last of her.

THE VIEW is a good name for the show because no view ever remains the same. Change is essential for growth. Yes, with the new faces on the show, the show may have a different feel for it. But the premise of the show will remain the same as long as the women who sit at the table are different women, of different ages and backgrounds.
