Jessica Simpson: Overexposed or Too Hot to Ignore?

Starting her career in pop music in 1999 with the release of “Sweet Kisses”, Jessica Simpson has become an icon in the music and the media. She has had 3 major albums in addition to a holiday album. But it wasn’t until 2003 that Simpson became a mainstream hot girl.

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey appeared on MTV’s Newlyweds after their October 2002 wedding. The show was so popular that it ran for four seasons. It is also recognized as the “crowning glory of her career.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessica_Simpson) Her video for “With You” from In This Skin helped her recover her singles career with its references to her ditsy mistakes on the show. The real question here is would she have been so popular without Nick Lachey by her side? The answer: probably not.

Since that video release in 2004, we have seen Jessica’s sex appeal in everything from product ads to Maxim. Is this beauty just a media gimmick or is Jessica talented enough to match the hotness that we’ve already seen? One thing is certain; she isn’t done proving herself yet. The 2005 release of The Dukes of Hazzard showed some promise for her acting career, although I think most of the audience was focusing on her “daisy dukes” and bare midriff. She has just finished filming her role in Employee of the Month where she plays Amy, a store cashier whom two other employees both to date. Again, the feeling of this is that her sex appeal will prove to be more involved in the movie than her acting just from the story line.

So, while there is no doubt that she is really good looking, Jessica Simpson is just another overrated singer/actress put on a pedestal by our wonderful media-enamored country.
