Review: Weight Watchers Smart Ones Macaroni & Cheese Fozen Dinner

If you know about Weight Watchers you are probably familiar with the points program. The points system was created by Weight Watchers as a way to track your food. Each food is given a point value based upon its calorie, fat, and fiber content. The dieter is allowed a certain amount of points each day depending on their weight. Typically, people on Weight Watchers are allotted around 24 points per day. Food point values vary depending on their nutritional values, but here are some examples: 1 point for two slices of Weight Watchers whole wheat bread, 7 points for one slice of pizza hut pepperoni pizza, 12 points for a venti mocha frappuchino with whip from Starbucks.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Macaroni & Cheese dinner is valued at 5 points. These points were determined by the 270 calories, 2 grams of fat and 2 grams of dietary fiber. Of these 2 grams of fat, only one is the bad kind, saturated fat, and 0.5 grams is heart healthy polyunsaturated fat. With only 1% daily value of cholesterol, 33% daily value sodium, and 11g protein, this is one of the healthiest frozen dinners on the market. When compared to other frozen dinners, which are made for convenience and not health, Smart Ones stands above the rest.

Ok, so now you know that it’s relatively healthy, but you want something that tastes good too, right? Well if you like mac and cheese, this is perfect for you. Weight Watchers Smart Ones hit the nail on the head with this version of this (as they print on the box), “Casserole favorite bursting with cheese flavor”. If I didn’t cook it myself, I would never believe it was a healthy frozen dinner made in a microwave. It really does have a great cheesy flavor, and hearty perfectly cooked macaroni.

To prepare this meal, Weight Watchers suggests you cook Smart Ones in either a microwave or a conventional oven. I always heat up my Smart Ones in the microwave and they always come out very good. My microwave oven has a frozen dinner button which cooks the Macaroni and Cheese Smart ones perfectly. Instructions for cooking in the microwave say to pull back corner of film after taking the macaroni and cheese out of the box, but in my experience, if you just poke the film with a fork, it gets heated more evenly. If you choose to cook the Mac and cheese in a regular oven, preheat it to 350 degrees fahrenheit and be ready to wait 35 minutes.
