The Oxford Book of American Poetry
EDITOR: DAVID LEHMAN
PUBLISHER: OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS
EDITED BY: JOHN BREHN
The story begins with Anne Bradstreet (c1612-1672) – “To sing of Wars” and concludes with Massachusetts bor son of Chinese parents, John Yau born in 1950. The book takes its reader through over three centuries of poetry and the price is excellent at only Ã?£25.00.
There are 1000 pages and a grand narrative within this beautiful book. Other poets featured in this book include; Raph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882) who lived in New England, Walt Whitman (1819-1892), Herman Melville (1819-1891) and more international names as we move forward into the next century which feature Robert Frost, Stein, Steven, Pound, Moore and Eliot…..i could go on and on..
What I particularly like about this book (as a published author and poet) is the little notes about the significance of the individual poet’s lives. It can’t get much bbetter than this. Excellent book full of American poetic history.
