Review of TheCowboy Lounge, Denver’s New Country Bar in Lodo

Ghetto turns country: Cowboy Lounge 1941 Market Street Denver, CO. Let me start this review off by saying I was extremely surprised to hear the problematic Market 41 had changed from Hip Hop and Rap to a Country bar in Lodo, Denver. Why in the name of all that is holy would anyone think a change like that would work?? Well, as I entered the place on a Thursday night at 11:00 pm I realized that it hasn’t. On this particular night there were approximately 30 people inside and 15 of those were the poor folks working there. The employees are extremely nice which is surprising due to the lack of patrons. Now the lack of folks enjoying themselves of course made it easier for me to check the place out and get a feel for it. There really isn’t that much that has changed. The dance floor, DJ booth, bar locations, tables and booths have not moved. They have even left the stools and the tables surrounding the dance floor bolted to the ground, that’s right folks, you won’t be moving these stools around to accommodate your fifth or sixth friend that shows up late. They’ll just have to stand or sit at another table. (That’ll teach Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½em to show up late next time won’t it).

The dÃ?©cor hasn’t changed at all either. It’s still the same faded, poorly painted multi color walls and same sticky floor. It’s still extremely dark unless you are standing by the dance floor. The light show casts just enough light to see the few people dancing. You can just make out the DJ in the booth but this is because he’s wearing a cowboy hat. The bathroom however is a little different, not as much trash and paper towels on the ground and graffiti on the walls. Of course this may have been due to the lack of people in the bar, (Have I mentioned there weren’t many people there??) As I said before the folks working the bar are very nice and mix some pretty good drinks. They do charge a $5 cover on Thursday but that includes all the drinks you can handle till 11:00 pm. Not too shabby unless you actually get there at 10 minutes till 11:00 like we did. For the smokers like me they do have a thin patio out front where you can feel like a loser and puff away. We get the last laugh because as it turns out, it has the best view in the club. Granted it’s of the lucky folks going to Lodo’s Bar and Grill across the street and The Tavern next door. I felt like the last child in an orphanage watching the other kids get picked by new mommies and daddies heading off to a new life while I was left behind, rejected and suicidal. (I wasn’t really suicidal, just really really really depressed). I’ve heard form other folks that it’s much better on other nights. I however think this is much like the existence of a white elephant. It may be true but I’d have to see it to believe it. I don’t think I’ll be spending 2 hours of my life to find out. I’d rather sit at home and watch Project Runway reruns on Bravo. I can’t believe I just admitted that.
