Annual Labor Day Festivals

Most people who live in cities well known for their big festivals, such as New York, Chicago, New Orleans, etc. expect a big annual Labor Day festival. However, big annual Labor Day festivals take place in cities all around the country that are not so well known for their festivals. I have listed the information for these festivals below so that you too can take part in the last big party of the summer!

Missouri

Missouri puts on an annual Labor Day festival, Santa-Cali-Gon Days, held from September 1st -4th. This festival draws an astounding 250,000 people and is one of the largest annual Labor Day festivals in the country! This festival is going to have nine huge craft tents featuring crafts from all over the country, more than fifty food booths, and free musical entertainment as well as a carnival.

Missouri has another annual Labor Day festival, The 25 Mile Labor Day Festival, held from September 1st – 3rd. This festival will have 25 miles (yes, miles) of bluegrass music, crafts, and antiques. There will also be a tractor show. Don’t forget your walking shoes!

Arkansas

One of Arkansas’ annual Labor Day festivals is their, Annual National Championship Chuck Wagon Races. In addition to chuck wagon races, they also have a Snowy River Race and trail rides. There is also Western music, barn dances, and food. In addition, there is a Western trade show, Civil War reenactment, and they even have a non-denominational worship service on Sunday.

Another Arkansas annual Labor Day festival will be, The Annual Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair, held September 1st-4th. There will be more than 250 arts and crafts exhibitors. There will also be food vendors, square dancing performances and contests, bluegrass, folk, gospel, and country music, a fun run and a 5K race.

Iowa

In Iowa, the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce will sponsor their fourth annual Labor Day Festival, on Saturday, September 2nd. They will have a parade, talent show, fireworks, bands, pet show, car show, food vendors, water-ski show, and inflatable rides. Local businesses will also be displaying their wares and services. There will also be a run/walk to benefit the sufferers of Marfan Syndrome.

Iowa has another annual Labor Day festival, Lamoni’s 4th Annual Civil War Days, held from September 1st-3rd. In addition to actual Civil War era re-enactments (both day and night), there will be period fashion shows, games, toys, songs, food, art, crafts, clothing displays, quilting, looming, weaving, theater and stories. There will also be a Civil War era town, set up, and cemetery tours.

Indiana

The, Tri-State Bluegrass Festival, will be Indiana’s annual Labor Day festival this year, from September 1st-3rd (Aug. 31st too). Some of the entertainers playing include, Danny Paisley and Southern Grass, Abrams Brothers, Forge Mountain Diggers, Jimmy Bowen and the Wright Sisters and many more. In addition to the great musical line-up, there will be a class called, Utilizing Bluegrass Music in the Classroom, and a free workshop for violin instructors.

Another annual Labor Day festival in Indiana is, The Marshall County Blueberry Festival, held from September 1st – 4th. This festival draws an amazing 500,000, plus, people each year and is Indiana’s largest four-day festival! Over 300 vendors take part in this festival, as well as local and regional businesses. And as you can imagine the food is blueberry oriented and there are over 100 food vendors selling blueberry ice cream, blueberry pie, and blueberry donuts, to name a few. Local, regional, and national entertainers are featured. There are many sports activities for all ages including arm wrestling, cheerleading, and horseshoes. There are specialty events such as a beauty pageant, a run, a parade, an automobile show, a bicycle cruise, a blueberry stomp, hot air balloons, and fireworks. I think this festival takes the (blueberry) cake!

Oklahoma

Oklahoma is hosting an annual Labor Day festival, The 70th Annual Evanston Cowboy Days, from September 1st-4th. They will have a professional rodeo, a parade, and fishing for kids, arts and crafts, dancing, and special guest star Rich O’Brien in addition to several other performers.

Oklahoma is also having another annual Labor Day festival, The 28th Annual Arts Festival, from September 1st -4th. This festival draws more than 30,000 people each year and is one of the major arts and crafts shows in the region. Entertainment for this year includes, Janie Fricke, Billy Richard’s Coaster, and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. There will be more than 150 visual artists, over 15 food vendors, and a children’s arts and crafts area.

Wyoming

This year Wyoming’s annual Labor Day festival is,The 84th Annual Meeteetse Labor Day Celebration, from September 2nd -4th. They get down with a rodeo, live music, dancing, BBQ, mountain race, quilt show, art & photo show, craft fair, quilt show, dinner and dessert, old West movie, church services, kids carnival, rodeo and parade.
