Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick Versus Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage
One of the first facts I read that had me running for the organic deodorants like Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick and Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage was that traditional non-organic deodorants are often antiperspirants, which means they help to keep your body from sweating. Sounds good to me, but then I discovered that your body needs to sweat in order to release natural toxins it produces on a daily basis. Secondly I learned that all non-organic deodorants/ antiperspirants contain aluminum compounds. Aluminum compounds did not sound so scary at first, but then I realized I would slowly be applying them to my body for about 60 years if I lived to a ripe old age of 70 and longer if I made it any further. Aluminum compounds are a natural irritant of the human body and can often cause inflammation of sweat glands and the formation of cysts under the arm.
After all of this information soaked in, no pun intended; I decide to check out my local drug store for organic deodorant options. I found Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick (in Tea Tree) and Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage. I eventually ended up purchasing both of them because the first one did not work at all. I based my comparison on a few different factors: how bad did I smell and how much did it cost. All reasonable factors when purchasing a natural deodorant for the first time.
Aaah, the Smell Factor
I started out with the Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick in their Tea Tree variety. So, I guess you now know which one did not work at all. After showering in the morning I applied my first dose ever of a natural deodorant and went about my daily routine. By early that afternoon I was smelling so badly I had to take a shower. Not daunted by the immediate knowledge that this natural organic deodorant did not work, I decided to try another one available at my local drug store. Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage should have been my first choice since I love most of the Burt’s Bee products. I have actually heard of this company whereas I had never even heard of Alba Botanica. I am a sucker for a new product and a new company that makes lots of products, so you can see how I was suckered into trying the Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick first. I had also heard of Tea Tree Oil for foot care, so I was intrigued.
Ok, so enough about my obsession with new products. The Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage did help in the battle of smells emanating from under my armpit. I will not say that it worked as well as my usually Secret antiperspirant/ deodorant, but I would actually wear Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage on a cool to cold day without worrying that I would smell terribly. It took me a little while to understand that these natural deodorant products just do not have any antiperspirant ingredients, which is why I have found that Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick and Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage are not ideal on a hot summer day.
Cost
A stick of Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage will cost you about $8.00 while a stick of Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick in their Tea Tree variety will cost you about $6.50. I have to honestly say that the Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant, with Oil of Sage is worth the extra $1.50 you will pay to buy it. I think the person sitting next to you on the bus will also agree!
