Morgellons Disease- The Sensation of Bugs Crawling in Your Skin
Symptoms of Morgellons Disease
Changes in the skin like irregular texture, thickening or thinning of the skin, and skin that appears severely sun damaged are just a few of the most noticeable signs. Mood changes, Fibromyalgia, Arthralgia, gastroesophageal reflux, changes in bowel habits are the most commonly reported signs of the disease. Many sufferers report feeling like ants are crawling on their body, biting sensations on their extremities, non-healing skin lesions, and the largest feature, and the most troubling is that the sufferers have elongated fibers, often twisted into balls or what appear to be bundles of fibers, growing within the skin like hair, but in various colors. The medical community has been working around the clock in an effort to find some comfort for Morgellon sufferers and a cure for this strange disease. Unfortunately, the symptoms and physical symptoms associated with this disease are unusual and lead many physicians into believing that the patient is misinterpreting their situation. Ninety-five percent of adults with the symptoms of this disease have received a diagnosis of Delusions of Parasitosis which is a form of psychosis in which sufferers hold a delusional belief they are infested with parasites.
There is no ignoring the facts that claims from sufferers are becoming increasing larger at alarming rates. One sufferer, Dr. Greg Smith of Georgia claims that a fiber was coming out of his big toe that felt like he was being stuck by a pin. He videotaped the episode for proof as he has lived with the crawling bug sensation himself.
The CDC Becomes Involved
After receiving approximately 20 calls per day from Morgellons sufferers, the Center for Disease Control in Georgia has officially opened an investigation into whether Morgellons is a real physical disorder and, if it is, whether it can be spread through person-to-person contact, and while doctors scratch their heads at the unknowns of this disease and all that it entails, suffers of Morgellons truly believe that their condition is real.
