The Top Dance Studios in Cecil County, Maryland

I have had experiences with 3 different dance studios in Cecil County, Maryland. Two of these my daughter has attended personally and one she took a trial class and then we observed classes of a friend. All 3 were nice but there was one that was above the rest!

My favorite dance studio is Cecil County, Maryland is Bobbie Ann’s Dance Studio. Bobbie Ann’s Dance Studio is located at 225 Mackall Street in Elkton, Maryland. It was established in 1947 by Bobbie Ann herself! Bobbie Ann is often still in the studio helping with whatever needs to be done including teaching! The goal of the studio is to promote confidence in the student through the art of dance. From my personal experiences, I can say that they definitely achieve this goal!

The dance studio is actually located in a house but the studio is very professional. The wood floors and mirrors as well as barres and other equipment are all very specialized to meet the needs of dancers. Susie Smith is the main teacher in most of the classes. Susie is also the Director of the studio. She has had extensive training and experience with dance and theater productions. She is a wonderful person! She loves the kids and teaches them in a kind but firm manner that has all the children adoring her!

At Bobbie Ann’s Dance Studio there are classes for all different levels. For the youngest students, starting at age 3 there are “You and Me” classes meant for a parent and child to attend together. Children as young as 4 can attend a “Combination” class where they will learn ballet, tap, acrobatics, and baton twirling. Each of these combination classes lasts one hour and is held once per week. As children get older, they can enroll in more specialized classes learning ballet, jazz, tap or ballroom dancing. Fees for classes are reasonable and assistance is gladly given if needed. For one hour of class per week, the fee is $360 or $40 per month.

Each year, students get to perform for family twice. One performance is in the studio in December along with a holiday party and the other is at the end of the school year in May or June. Every other year is a big recital with costumes and a stage. Opposing years, it is simply a performance party with pizza or other goodies. As recitals are expensive for parents as well as the studio, this arrangement is perfectly fine for me! My daughter has taken classes there for 2 years and is getting ready to start her 3rd year. My experience with Bobbie Ann’s Dance Studio has been positive. The classes are fun for the children but they also learn a lot. I would rate Bobbie Ann’s Dance Studio the best in Cecil County, Maryland.

Another place to take dance classes in Cecil County is through the Parks and Recreation Department. They are currently getting ready to begin their 4th year of classes. My daughter took dance classes with them for one year. At the time my daughter took classes, there were two teachers, Ms. Cristal and Ms. Amanda. It is my understanding that there is now simply one teacher who has an aide to assist her. . Amanda Cornett teaches dance to groups of children in the large recreation room in the Parks and Recreation Building 100 Railroad Avenue in Elkton, Maryland.

Students can learn ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and lyrical dancing through the Parks and Recreation Dance classes in Elkton, Maryland. Each class meets once per week for one hour. There is a recital every year in May. There are no other performances for parents. The fees for this class depend on whether you are a resident of the town of Elkton or not. If you are a resident of the town of Elkton, the fee would be $160 for the year. If you are not a resident of the town of Elkton, the fee would be $240. There are discounts for multiple children from the same family. My experience with the Parks and Recreation Dance classes was okay. I was disappointed that the floors that were used were simply tile, not a great choice for dance classes. There were no mirrors for students to practice with and there were no barres nor other equipment available. In addition, I felt that the classes were not well paced and thus by the last half of class my daughter was often bored. She does still talk about the classes she took and seems to have fond memories!

Cecil Dancenter is the third dance location I’ve had experience with in Cecil County, Maryland. It is located at 25 Flint Drive in North East, Maryland. The facility has 2 dance studios with professional dance floor, mirrors, and barres for students to practice on. There are many instructors at Cecil Dancenter and all are well trained and highly qualified to teach dance. The instructors that I observed when my daughter took a class here was friendly and firm with the students and my daughter did like her.

Cecil Dancenter is the most expensive of the dance studios that I have observed. For one hour per week of dance instruction, it would cost $420 for the year. However, I have found that once a student hits second grade, one dance class per week only gives you one type of dance. In other words your child could take ballet OR tap but not both for that price and some of the classes are only 45 minutes long instead of an hour and the price is the same. If your child wanted to take both ballet and tap, the price would be $732 for the year and they would have to take classes either two separate weeknights or for an hour and a half on Saturdays. The price and scheduling did not work well for my family even though the facility and instructors are great!

Cecil Dancenter does have a recital every year so students can show off what they have learned. My experience with this dance studio has been limited but the actual experiences have been positive. My daughter loved the sample class she attended and her friend’s recital. Her friend really enjoys her dance classes there. I found the studio and the teachers to be professional without being too strict with the youngest children. My only problem with this studio is the prices that I cannot afford and the schedules that don’t work for me.

The Dance Studio locations in Cecil County Maryland are limited but from my experiences, they are all quality establishments. I would recommend any of the above studios for dance instruction. The biggest factors, in my opinion, are the tuition and class schedules. All of the instructors and instruction are top notch!
