Top Restaurants to Eat Lunch in Sikeston, Missouri
China Buffet, 1330 S. Main St., Sikeston, MO 63801, (573) 472-9899
While ethnic food is not popular in Sikeston, the town is home to a few Chinese places and China Buffet is the cream of the crop. It is a large place that has two meeting rooms that they offer free of charge. The food is spectacular. While the buffet offerings usually change daily, there are some favorites that are always present like Sweet and Sour Chicken, Crab Rangoon, and Lo Mein. The buffet also features a small Mongolian-style grill bar where they will cook ingredients that you select right before your eyes. While the buffet is one of the busiest places in Sikeston, it has a great deal of seating so there usually is little to no waiting if you are in a hurry.
Susie’s Bake Shop, 112 E. Center St., Sikeston, MO 63801, (573) 471-8550
While Susie’s Bake Shop is most noted for their baked goods, it is a great place to eat lunch. Most of their fare is light, but delicious like their chicken salad. Because it is a small place, their menu is limited and changes daily. Call ahead and see when they are making Taco Chicken or one of their other specialties so you won’t be disappointed. Naturally, because they are mainly a bakery, Susie’s is the one place that you can not pass up dessert, even if you have to take it to go. A slice of Italian CrÃ?¨me Cake or Carrot Cake (both of which are topped with a homemade nutty cream cheese icing) is great choice. If you are a chocolate lover, a square Mississippi Mud Pie will not disappoint either. The only drawback? Susie’s is only open on weekdays and for lunch only.
Lambert’s CafÃ?©, 2305 E. Malone, Sikeston, MO 63801, (573) 471-7563, www.throwedrolls.com
In 1942, the original Lambert’s opened in Sikeston, Missouri. While it has changed locations over the years to accommodate the growing number of visitors it gets every year, Lambert’s has never stopped its tradition of serving wonderful food and lots of it. The restaurant is affectionately referred to as the “Home of the Throwed Rolls” because rolls are literally thrown to customers while they dine. In fact, the rolls are so popular that annually the three Lambert’s restaurants “throw” over 2 million individual rolls a year. Along with the wonderful rolls, workers come around with large pots of “pass arounds” that are free to those who dine at Lambert’s. Pass arounds include fried potatoes, macaroni and tomatoes, black eyed peas, and fried okra. The cuisine at Lambert’s can easily be identified as “comfort food”. Fried chicken, roast beef, and ribs are some of the favorites. The meals are served in large portions and if you run out, the smiling faces are more than happy to bring you more for no extra charge. Drinks are also “bottomless” and are served in huge plastic mugs. The atmosphere is also some of the best that you’ll find in the area. Lambert’s is uniquely decorated with old time memorabilia and antiques, including a wall full of license plates from various states and a model train that runs around the ceiling of the dining hall. The original Lambert’s CafÃ?© is so wildly popular, the Lambert family has expanded by opening two other locations (one in Foley, Alabama and one in Branson, Missouri).
