Angel Food Ministries

I first heard of Angel Food Ministries from a friend who was going with her Mom to pick up their monthly box. I was really skeptical when she mentioned that it was only $25.00 for a large box of food, and that there was no religious obligations at all. Being the skeptic that I am I decided to ride along and check out this seemingly to good to be true food shopping experience. I was soon watching in amazement the frenzy this distribution day brings. After waiting our turn their box was loaded and we were on our way. I think the thing that amazed me most was that this was named brand food that I spend a small fortune on, not knock off railroad salvage food. Needless to say I signed up and will be there every month. Here are some of the things I have learned about Angel Food Ministries.

Angel Food Ministries began in 1994 in Monroe Georgia and has grown tremendously since then. Their purpose is to provide grocery relief to all people. The nice thing about them is they do not require income verification and you do not need to be on government assistance to take advantage of the opportunity they provide. Angel Food Ministries serves the public through churches and community centers however they are nondenominational and there is no affiliation with a religious organization needed to take advantage of this great cost saving service. They do place a religious tract in each box but that is as far as they go.

The typical Angel Food Ministries package contains enough food for a family of four to eat for a week. I have some single friends and this is their only shopping trip they take monthly. The food is priced at $25.00 for your regular box which always includes a dessert. They have a menu which changes monthly. So you are sure to enjoy variety. There are usually about 4 meats and several side items like macaroni and cheese. Angel Food Ministries also has about 3 different extra packages you can order if you like. They are priced between $15-$20 dollars. My favorite part of this system is you can order as many packages or specials that you would like to have.

Angel Food Ministries food is usually distributed one day a month. You will need a medium or large box to place your food in. I seen several people bring square laundry baskets in. Typically you will have a set date about 1 or 2 weeks ahead that you will pay for your food and order any extras that you may like. It is great as you see the menu so you know ahead of time what is being offered and you know what you are getting. They accept cash, checks and food stamps for payment.
