Top Sandwich Restaurants in Tuscon
Dagwood Caf©
736 E. Fort Lowell Rd
520-903-9663
This little sandwich shop is my personal favorite. It is a small restaurant located on Fort Lowell and First Ave. It was aptly named after the famous comic strip Blonde, featuring a man named Dagwood, who would go into the kitchen late at night and build himself a massive sandwich from leftovers. At Dagwood CafÃ?©, they don’t make their sandwiches from leftovers, but as a testament to the comic, they pile each sandwich two-three inches high with meat, cheese and vegetables. There are over twenty different types of sandwiches to choose from ranging from a classic grilled ham and cheese to my favorite, The Dagwood Our Way. This sandwich along with most of their sandwiches is not for the faint hearted or the little stomached. The Dagwood Our Way includes, roast beef, turkey, ham, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, Cheddar, Swiss, American, and Jack cheese. I would also recommend their meatball subs, but keep in mind, if you go to Dagwood cafÃ?© bring your appetite. The quality and size makes this cafÃ?© the Top Sandwich Restaurants in Tucson.

I discovered this sandwich shop shortly after I started college at the University of Arizona and it quickly became one of my Top Sandwich Restaurants in Tucson. This restaurant is situated on 4th Ave less than a mile from the campus. They offer a variety of soups, salads, appetizers and of course sandwiches. The most popular menu choice is the ½ sandwich and soup combination. This option allows you to choose one of their different bread bowl soups; my personal favorite is the potato bacon, and half a sandwich. There are over twenty sandwiches to choose from. The Tucson for instance includes smoked turkey, bacon, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese and Parmesan peppercorn dressing. Or perhaps a taste of the University is more to your liking. In which case you should try the Wildcat: roast beef and smoked turkey, Gouda cheese, shredded lettuce and spicy honey mustard. Keep in mind that even though it is only a ½ sandwich, it will still ensnare all of your taste buds. Be prepared.

There are nine different Tucson locations, the address listed above is the location where I dine. This restaurant has been voted Tucson’s best sandwich for 15 years and with good reason. Their gourmet sandwiches are a refreshing combination of flavor and creativity. The Sundown Baggin, is made with turkey breast, mayo, stuffing, lettuce and cranberries. It is a little taste of thanksgiving any time during the year. Or perhaps you would prefer a Baggin’s Hopi Chicken. This delicious sandwich combines grilled chicken on sourdough, avocado, bacon, tarragon and mayo. The sandwiches are served in a paper bag in case you are unable to finish them. However, once you take your first bite, the sandwich will probably be gone before you realize it. But don’t worry, Baggin’s always include a moist chocolate chip cookie for desert. The perfect finish to a perfect sandwich.
