SkyView Drive-In Litchfield Illinois

Litchfield Illinois is a town with several great things to do and see. We have Lake Lou Yeager, great parks and something that most towns don’t, we have a drive-in that is still in operation. The Litchfield SkyView Drive-In has been delighting locals and tourists alike since 1951 and hopefully will continue to do the same for several more years.

The SkyView was opened in 1951 and has only changed ownership twice in its over 50 year history. The current owners are a wonderful couple who strive to keep the mom and pop feel when going to the drive in. The accomplish this in many ways, the first is they keep prices affordable for families to come and see a movie. The going rate to see a double feature here at the SkyView is a mere $2.00 a person and children under 5 years of age are admitted free. Films are changed weekly. Though they may not have the hottest new releases on opening day, they always come through with them within a couple of weeks. Depending upon where you live the price of admission to a walk in theater will cost you more than a whole night at the drive in. The SkyView has a very nice concession stand to purchase your favorite snacks. The prices are very reasonable and a wide variety in products is offered. You are also welcome to bring your own favorites as well. They do not permit grilling on the premises for safety reasons.

Another great feature of the Litchfield SkyView is that this is a very family oriented drive in. They have a play area in the front for children. There is a overall respect for all patrons at this theater. Even the teenagers act in the most respectful manner. I have been going to this drive in for over 13 years and have yet to see anything I would be ashamed for my son to see.

The SkyView Drive-In is open seasonally from around May through October. The operate daily during their peak season (Memorial Day thru Labor Day). They are open Friday,Saturday and Sunday in the off peak season. All showings begin around dusk and never start before 7:30 PM. They play 2 movies which is a great bargain, however it can also make for a long night. They do have a few minute break between movies for people who aren’t interested in the second feature to leave before it begins playing.

The SkyView Drive-In is one of the most popular spots in the summer time and it is not uncommon to have a long wait to enter the theater so I do advise arriving early to beat the crowds or on a Sunday night. They no longer have the old fashioned speakers but there is a local radio station that you tune you car stereo into to hear the movie. If you have no car radio do not be discouraged as many other people will have theres on and you will be able to hear just fine.

I highly suggest if you are taking a trip down the mother road that you stop in and check out the Litchfield SkyView Drive-In. I promise it will take you back to the days of yester year.
