1. Rated as number one is Atlantis Marine World, located on 431 E. Main St. It’s a great place for kids and adults. It’s not that big but they do have lots of fish, touch-and-feed exhibits, and animals – sea lions, penguins, sharks, turtles, stingrays to name just a few. When you enter you see the rescued seals in an outside pool which is a wonderful welcome.
There’s a cafeteria where you can have snacks and relax for a while. They also organize birthday parties there so don’t hesitate if you want to have an unforgettable and unique celebration.
The fee for adults is $18, and for kids – $16, which is usually considered a bit pricey but in my opinion it’s worth it because you learn so much while you are there and it makes for a great day of fun and entertainment. They also offer special membership for regular visitors and discounts for large groups.
There is a gift shop on the way out where you can buy souvenirs to remind you of this beautiful and extraordinary place, as well as toys and original presents.
If you are traveling by car there are some parking spots in front of the aquarium and a municipal parking right behind it.
2. Number two is the Dinosaur Walk Museum of Riverhead which address is 221 E Main St, just a few minutes away from the Aquarium. They claim to have one of the world’s largest collections of prehistoric animals consisting of 47 different species – from giant sea lizards to tiny reptiles, all made to look real, the way these creatures would have looked like 65 million years ago. You can watch many dinosaur films, look for fossils and bones in the fun Fossil dig and learn lots of new things, like the fact that a dinosaur footprint was unearthed in Riverhead a few years ago.
The museum is available for children’s birthday parties if you bring your own food. All kids get a dinosaur mask and a toy. Admission ranges from $6.95 for ages 3 – 11 to $10.95 for adults over 18. You get $1 off if you present a same-day receipt from Atlantis or the International Fauna Society’s The Serpentarium, located next door. Other discount coupons are available on their website.
The museum is self-guided but if you’re bringing a large group and call ahead they will organize a guided tour for you.

3. The place for summer fun is definitely Splish Splash, voted one of the top 5 water parks in America. The address is 2549 Splish Splash Drive, Riverhead, NY. It’s famous for its thrill rides like “The Alien Invasion”, “The Abyss”, and “The Dragon’s Den”. They also offer Fun-for-all rides, and slides just for kids.
The general admission fee is $32, for seniors – $24, and for kids 3 and under it’s free. They also have reduced admission which is 3 hours before they close, usually after 4 pm. Parking is not free, it costs $9 per vehicle. Strollers and wheelchairs are available.
The park offers incredible birthday parties. For $33 you get all day admission, more than an hour on Birthday Island, choice of lunch served by their hostess, and party goods. You can bring your own cake, or order from them at extra cost.
