Poetry: You and Me

darling, I’ve been thinking about us. you and me, love. who are we?

people say we’re romeo and juliet. i think not. i just couldn’t die for you. and let’s be realistic, would you for me?

and i don’t think we’re adam and eve. you were never a part of me.

are we clark gable and vivien leigh? you play the role dear, but to me love isn’t just gone with the wind.

fragile and plastic. you laugh at me love, but barbie and ken might be a better comparison than either of us would like to concede.

am i your superman? i suppose if you’re my lois lane. although, i think you have always rescued me.

we’re not sonny and cher, lancelot and guenivere
not mickey and minnie or donald and daisy
franklin D. and eleanor? no.

i apologize love, but i think we’ve always just been you and me.
