Kempisky Spa, Canary Islands

One of my favourite things is to find a good Spa Hotel/Resort and just relax away the cobwebs that have built up due to my busy schedule. Only last week I visited the Kempinsky Spa/Hotel in the Canary Islands where they promise “it is an experience”, and they were right.

The spa is set in a wonderful 5star plus hotel where anything you could possibly want is laid on for it’s guests. The staff seem to be trained on how to keep out of your way and yet whenever you need anything “Voila” there they are. They are only short of tucking you into bed at nightime.

The hotel boasts 5 restaurants including Italian, Japanese, Continental, Buffet and a regal restaurant where black tie is the norm. At this time of year September, two of the restaurants were closed however, this did nothing to detract from the other wonderful culinary delights on the premises.

My favourite to be honest was the room service. Starting my day off by having a lovely breakfast in the excellent buffet I would then go and soak up some rays until lunchtime. The pool area is excellent, the beds are padded and there is no lack of beds for sun worshipers. There are two main pools; one is heated and has a jaccuzi at the end which manages to awaken the body when the sun gets too hot. The second is a cooler pool however it is not brass monkey’s time.

The ambience around the pool is highly civilised and there is a waiter/waitress on hand until 6pm. A short stroll from the pool is where you have lunch. What a place to have lunch, overlooking a wonderful volcanic island, a port and a glimpse of the nearest island Lanzorote. The service is excellent compared to some places in the canary islands which is rather slow.

After lunch (and perhaps a drink) back to the sunshine until around 5pm. Then retire to the SPA/Water therapy section which is included in the price of the holiday. This features a gym, turkish bath, sauna ….etc., and is quiet and very relaxed. The staff here are also on-the-ball and never invade your peace. Other treatments are not included in the price e.g., massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, etc., however the rull range is offered to guests but must be booked in advance.

This hotel is located in an upmarket private area of the town so if you wish to go to the beautiful white sandy beach the hotel lays on a minibus which leaves three times a day and collects three times in the evening, all included in the price. The hotel is so good that most people do not bother to go out to the beach and with the main town about a 40 minute walk you can either be really fit and check out the sites on foot or you could always call a taxi which costs at most 3 euro.

Overall, this hotel readily deserves it’s 5 star plus status and it was a complete pleasure to stay there. I would return to it next week if my schedule allowed it. Excellent, quiet, peaceful, tranquil, romantic, for couples and not suitable for children.
