Guide to Annual Halloween Activities in Alton, IL

The Halloween season is certainly an exciting time of year in Alton, IL. Known as one of the most haunted small towns in the U.S., the Alton area is transformed into “Spook Central” for those who are willing to venture into the ghostly surroundings.

There are so many different things to do in the Alton, IL area at Halloween time. Perhaps none is more ghostly and spine-tingling than the Alton Haunting Tour. Named the “most authentic” ghost tour, this 3 hour adventure will take you into the city’s most haunted sites.

The tour will take you through the old Alton penitentiary, as well as the First Unitarian Church. Incidentally, this church has appeared on the TV show “Mysterious Worlds” on The Learning Channel. You’ll also go through the areas most haunted old mansions along with a spooky visit to the Enos Sanitarium.

Tickets for the Haunted Walking Tour begin at $20. The tour also includes the ghost stories and histories of each site as well. You’ll also be taken inside a variety of the locations. Also offered is a Ghost Hunter’s Tour that is an expanded part of the Haunted Tour. It includes additional sites and many more behind the scenes looks at all the different places that has made Alton become known as the haunted capital of small town America! Other Area Halloween Events

Alton, IL Halloween Parade – The areas largest Halloween spooktacular parade, it begins this year at 7:30pm on October 31st. With lots of floats, bands, scary costumes, and of course, tons of candy! This is the one parade you don’t want to miss! The parade begins at Washington Ave and Broadway.

Halloween Concert – On Saturday, October 28th at 8:00pm in the Hatheway Hall at Lewis and Clark community College, a special Halloween concert will be presented. With Maestro Edwards Dolbashian leading the way, this fun-filled concert will include a wide array of traditional Halloween favorites. With musicians in costumes, it’s fun for the entire family!

Great Godfrey Haunted Maze – From October 13th-15th and 20th-29th at the Robert E. Glazebrook Community Park, you can bring kids to have a hauntingly good time! Featuring two separate mazes built into a 7-acre cornfield, this annual event is great for children of all ages. Although the mazes can be fun during the day, it’s at night that things really get scary! With ghosts and goblins scurrying about, you’ll never know what’s around the next corner!

Hours are from 10:00am to 10:00pm on Saturday’s and till 9:00pm on the other days. Tickets are $6 for adults; $4 for kids 6-11; and children under 5 are free.

Hartford Halloween Parade – This is another one of the Alton area’s Halloween parades. Set for October 28th at 1:00pm, the Hartford Halloween Parade will be a ghoulishly good time for the whole family! The parade begins at Seventh Street Park and travels down Delmar to Rand Avenue.

Haunted Owl-ton – October 21st & 28th, 2006 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Alton Visitor’s Center will be the place for a fantastic Haunted “Owl-ton”. Wood River Halloween Parade – The 21st annual Wood River Halloween Parade will take place on October 28, 2006 at 10:30 AM. In addition to the frightening floats, marching bands and emergency vehicles, prizes will be awarded for the best costume and float entries. With plenty of candy for the kids, this fun-filled parade is one of the areas largest and begins at Emerick Park on 6th St.
