Quick Cleanup Tips for when Guests Arrive

Let’s face it, no one likes cleaning up, but when you are expecting guests, it’s something that most people force themselves to do. No one wants to face the potential shame, misery or judgement that may come if you have a pig-stye of a home or apartment and attempt to have a dinner party or some people over to hang out.

Thus, if you are one of those people who never cleans on a weekly basis to ensure the general upkeep of your home, this is a guide for you.

There is no point in wasting half of a day or a whole day making your home presentable for people (unless it is a really special occasion), so give yourself about 15 minutes and you will be on your way to impressing the guests.

The first thing to do is to whiz around your space. Go into the rooms you know your guests will see and get rid of the clutter. Throw out old newspapers, get rid of plates that never made it into the sink and put things back in their respective places. Half the time, messes come from people being too lazy to put something back where they found it.

If you have a duster, you should give everything a quick dust. If you know you and your friends are going to be watching television, dust the TV. Dust is a sure sign of someone who never cleans.

The next thing to do since a lot of the dust fell to your floor, is to vacuum. Give your floors a quick treatment with the vacuum. It sounds bad to say this, but when people see the vacuum marks in carpet, it gives the appearance that you actually clean your home (when really, the opposite is true). Plus, you will be picking up whatever little dirt or other pieces of lint or trash that may have found its way onto your floor.

Any sort of glass or hard surface, can be 409d. While this is not a real verb, the cleaner 409 will become your multi-purpose friend. This is good for mirrors, TV screens, getting the grease off of ovens – everything. Just grab some paper towels or rags and go through your living space quickly hitting whatever may need a quick pick-me-up.

If you have a little more time, break out the swiffer, which is good for getting hair in the bathroom or wherever else there is tile or a hard floor.

In an effort to avoid having to do a major cleaning job, it is best to clean your house or apartment on a weekly basis. Do a load of laundry rather than letting it stack up until the end of the month. Always wash your dishes daily instead of piling dirty utensils and plates in the sink.

Plus, it is also a good idea to spend a few minutes each day throwing stuff away. This stuff can be the junk mail that comes everyday or the newspapers you read. These are all usually the things that tend to add clutter in your house and make it seem as though your place is a mess when it really isn’t.

No one likes to clean, but follow these tips and you won’t have to resort to shoving everything in a spare bedroom or closet every time people come to visit you. Plus, it may make your life a little easier to know that your home is clean and organized rather than disheveled and a hazard to walk through.
