Animal Hair Everywhere?

If you have a cat or a dog then you probably have a lot of animal hair around your house. Normal cleaning does not remove this. My husband wears black clothes to work and he always has to role out his clothes to get most of the hair off him. Then he has to run out of the house and not touch a thing on his way out. He works with the public so he can not have hair on him as this does not look very professional. Getting tired of hearing his complaints I looked around and asked everyone I knew how they deal with the hair. I have gathered some great tips that really work (just ask my husband) and I am going to share them with you.

Your animal

You first need to start at the root of your problem. In this case it would be your cat or dog. You should brush them with a shed blade. The shed blade works very well and takes off a lot off lose dead hair. It even works their undercoat which is where your problem is. Giving your animal regular baths is a must. I have found while I shampoo my dog I use a fine tooth comb. You can buy these at the pet store for your type of animal. They come in all kinds of sizes and shapes. The one I have is for my dogs coat and its to get flees out. This way the teeth are spaced very close to one another. While the shampoo is on the dog, I run this comb through his hair several times before rinsing. Then get him out and dry very well and then I use the shed blade.

Rubber Gloves

This is a great way to get all that pet hair off your couch and chair. My dog is an English Mastiff. If you know anything about this bread then you would know they are big and lazy. When I say big I mean 200+ pounds. When I say lazy I mean he sleeps over half the day. His favorite spot is my couch. Getting a pair of rubber gloves a wetting them has helped this problem. Put on the rubber glove and run your hands under the water. Shake your hands so the excess water will fall off. Take your hands and run them over your furniture. You wont believe all the hair it just picked up. Things your vacuum wouldn’t even dream of. Then simply rinse in a bucket of water and go at it again. I don’t recommend rinsing your hands in the sink, unless you have a hair guard or else you will have to figure out how to unclog your sink next.

Tape

If you have furniture that can not get wet like suede or something along those lines, then tape would be a better option for you. Masking tape which can be found at your local dollar store is a great cheap way to do this. Take the tape and wrap it around your hand with the sticky side up. Tap your hand all over your furniture. When the tape is full of hair simply throw away and start over if needed. This works great for your clothes to if you don’t like buying rollers.

Vacuum

No I don’t mean your carpets or your furniture. I am talking about vacuum your animal. If you have an animal that will let you do this, then this is a great option. My vacuum has a brush attachment with it. I simply run the over him when ever I vacuum the house. You would not believe the hair that comes off of him from this. Its a great thing to do right after you use the shed blade to. This way any loose hairs from the shed blade will be sucked right up with the vacuum cleaner.

Rubber Brooms

They sell these at your local pet stores and some hardware shops. They look like a broom but they have rubber bristles. The rubber bristles work well with static electricity and the dog hair attracts to them very easily. I would recommend getting one of these for your carpets. Most vacuum’s don’t have even suction power to remove dog hair because it gets embedded into the carpet. Running over the carpet with the rubber broom first will get up a lot of the dog hair and also loosen the rest of the hair for your vacuum to suck up.
