3 Ways to Repair a Screen Window or Door

Screen windows and doors allow you the opportunity to let fresh air into your house without the annoyance of insects. Almost all houses now have screens on either windows or doors. They are very useful. However, any blunt or sharp object can punch a hole through the screen and create a displeasing look. Don’t worry, you can fix your own window and door screens yourself. There are three ways in which you can repair your screens.

Weaving
Screens usually have a waffle like pattern. One main way to fix them is to mimic the original pattern by weaving strands into the tear. You can get screen strands at your local home improvement store. Make sure you attach your weaving to the screen threads that are unharmed so that they last longer.

Glue
Perhaps the quickest fix for a screen door or window is to glue the hole. This is usually reserved for smaller holes and isn’t the most attractive method. At the local hardware store you can purchase epoxy glue. Apply a generous amount of glue to the area until the entire hole is filled. Gluing screens only works with fiberglass or metal screening. This fix is reserved for the busy parents who need a screen hole fixed immediately.

Patch
If you have a large hole and you are looking for a more visually appealing fix, try a patch. You will need to buy extra screen at the hardware store. Then cut a patch that is slightly larger than the hole. The end wires should be unraveled so that you can press them into the hole and wrap them around the original screen fibers. This type of repair is virtually invisible if no one looks too closely. If you want a great looking door without a complete replacement, a patch is the way to go.

Screens allow us to enjoy spring breezes and summer heat from the comfort of our own home. We can open the windows and patio doors without the fear that we will be eaten alive by the bugs and mosquitoes. If you have children, like me, you will need to get used to the idea that things will break. Since screen doors and windows break all the time, make sure you know the correct way to repair them. These three methods are the easiest and most common ways to fix holes in a screen window or door.
