It’s Time for Some Spring Cleaning!

There is so much excitement filling the air during spring! Winter is coming to an end and the snow is melting. Many people are so excited to get outside and start their garden, go for walks, barbeque’s and just sitting on the deck enjoying the warm weather. Before you get too wrapped up in the excitement of outside activities, be sure to do some spring cleaning inside! Spring is a great time to refresh your home with some cleaning and organizing!

You can start your spring cleaning from the floors and work your way up! During the spring warm up you will want to move all your furniture so that you can properly clean your carpet. Start with one room and remove all the furniture. Do a very thorough vacuuming and dusting. After you feel you have vacuumed all the dirt from the carpet bring in the shampoo machine! Every carpet is filled with mites and all sorts of other microorganisms. An annual shampoo will restore your carpet to it’s original color and cleanliness. Allow the carpet to dry completely before you put the furniture back in the room. After the carpet is dry and the furniture is back in place, move on to the next room! Any hard surface floors should be cleaned very well too. Move the furniture and sweep and mop the entire room to remove all the dust from your house. Be sure the floor is dry before placing the furniture back in place to avoid discoloring of your floor.

The next area that will need some special attention in spring is your windows. Many new windows tilt or pop out so that you can clean them with ease. Any window cleaner and a roll of paper towels with bring the sparkle back to your windows. If you can’t pop them out, I suggest taking out the ladder and washing the outside. Screens should also be pulled off and washed in the bathtub with some soapy water. After you have cleaned the windows your house will feel so much brighter and your views will be so much clearer!

After the floors and windows are done, you will want to dust your entire house. Every ledge and top surface of your furniture should be dusted using a simple dusting product and towel. This will leave your house sparkling and dust free! Many furniture pieces are filled with nooks and crannies that you will need to pay special attention to.

You will want to pay special attention to your bedding during your spring cleaning. Wash all sheets and replace flannel sheets with cotton percale sheets. Hang all comforters, quilts and duvets out in the sun to kill any dust mites or other microorganisms living in your blankets. You will also want to vacuum the mattress during your cleaning.

Your rugs should also be cleaned in the spring. If they are washable, you can put them in your washing machine, or wash them in your bath tub. After washing you will want to hang them outside to dry. If you cannot wash the rugs you should spot clean any stains or messes and then hang the rug in the sun. The heat of the sun will kill anything that may be living inside the rug.

The outside of your house may need a little tidying up too. Commercial siding cleaning chemicals can be purchased and attached to your hose end to wash off the exterior of your house. You may also want to tidy up the yard by picking up any sticks and rocks that may have accumulated throughout the winter!

After all the cleaning your house will feel fresh and new. You may be exhausted but that is the time to bring out the patio chairs and sit in the sun and relax. Spring is here and things are growing and now that your house is clean you can enjoy the outdoors!
