Top Ten Uses for Baking Soda in the Kitchen
Baking soda is so overlooked that I have complied a list of ten things you can use it for in the kitchen but it is very useful all around the home. I have made published other lists here, so look for many more uses for baking soda. Baking soda can tackle kitchen jobs beyond the box at the back of the refrigerator.
Some cleaning requires a paste, to make the paste add just enough water to give it a consistency that will not run if applied to a vertical surface. If a baking soda solution is required then use 4 tablespoons baking soda for each quart of warm water.
1. Use a baking-soda paste to remove stains from plastic and rubber utensils. Apply with a scouring pad or sponge.
2. Soak old sponges, nylon scrubbers and scrub brushes by soaking them overnight in a solution of 4 tablespoons baking soda to 1 quart of water.
3. Make a baking-soda solution to remove stains and deodorize wooden bowls or utensils.
4. Encrusted grease and food on roasting pans can be cleaned by dampening with hot water and sprinkling with baking soda. Let sit for an hour and sponge clean.
5. Loosen baked or dried food in pans by gently boiling water and baking soda in the pans. When the food is loosened, cool pan and wipe clean.
6. Enamel cookware is one cookware that can’t handle abrasive cleaners. To clean apply a baking-soda paste and let sit for an hour, then clean with a synthetic scrubber, and rinse.
7. Stains in your nonstick pan? Remove them by boiling 1 cup water, 2 tablespoons baking soda, and �½ cup liquid bleach in the pan for several minutes. Wash as usual, and use oil to reseason.
8. To clean burned on stains from cookie sheets, cover stains with baking soda, then with hot water, and let soak for 10 minutes. Sour with baking soda and a scrubber.
9. Cleaning stainless-steel sinks and other surfaces can be done easily using baking-soda. Sprinkle baking soda directly onto sponge or clean cloth and scrub the surface. Rinse and buff dry.
10. Have laminated countertops? They can be easily cleaned by making a baking-soda paste, applying to the surface. Let the paste dry and then rub off and rinse.
