Homemade Oven Cleaner

Cleaning an oven is one of the most difficult and least desired household tasks, but it’s a chore that’s necessary for those who don’t own a self-cleaning model. Store-bought oven cleaner can be quite harsh, and regular kitchen cleanser and elbow grease doesn’t always work very well. When using ordinary kitchen cleaner you can scrub and scrub and still find black spots and baked-on grease.

Don’t purchase caustic oven cleaner to clean your oven, and don’t rub your fingers to the bone trying to scrub away baked-on foods that are nearly impossible to remove. The following homemade oven cleaner does a fantastic job of removing baked on grease and grime. When used on a regular basis, this homemade oven cleaner will keep your oven sparkling clean.

Before beginning, provide yourself with adequate ventilation, and keep children and pets away from potentially harmful fumes produced by ammonia. Never mix ammonia with bleach or any other household cleaner, even with sufficient ventilation. Always wear heavy-duty rubber gloves and protect your eyes with safety glasses or goggles.

Easy Homemade Oven Cleaner

This homemade oven cleaner works overnight to loosen and dissolve grease and baked on foods. It’s very inexpensive to make, and it’s much less harsh than typical store-bought products. Although it doesn’t magically clean your oven, this homemade oven cleaner will make a difficult job much easier than simply rubbing and scrubbing.

To make this homemade oven cleaner you’ll need 1 cup of ammonia, 2 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid that contains degreaser, and a bucket of hot water. You’ll also require a scrub sponge with an abrasive side that is recommended for heavy-duty scrubbing, and a rag for rinsing as well as a rag to wipe away the grease and grime.

Begin by placing 1 cup of ammonia in the oven before going to bed. Make sure the oven is cool, and the door is closed. The following day, take out the ammonia, and add approximately 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid to a bucket of hot water. With scrub sponge in hand, briskly scrub the grease and grime, wipe it away, and follow up by rinsing with a dampened rag.

Homemade Touch-up Spray

To make homemade spray-on cleaner you’ll need 1 cup of trisodium phosphate (found in paint stores), 1 cup of washing soda (available in the laundry supply section), 2 cups of sodium perborate (consult your local pharmacist), and 4 tablespoons of bleach-free powdered laundry soap. You’ll also need a large spray bottle and a sponge or rag for cleaning.

Mix together the dry ingredients, and store it away from children and pets until ready to use. To make homemade cleaner for one application, put on heavy-duty rubber gloves, and thoroughly combine 1 pint of water with �½ cup of powdered mix.

Before using this homemade cleaner, remember to put on safety glasses or goggles, and spray the interior surfaces that require cleaning while avoiding the oven element and light bulb. Allow the liquid to work for approximately one hour before wiping away the grease and grime with a damp sponge or rag. Finish by rinsing the surface with clear water, and properly dispose of any unused homemade oven cleaning spray.
