Home Safety: Keeping Your Doors Locked Might Not Be Enough

Living in a small home or apartment might seem like the chances of someone breaking in are low. But many break ins happen in places like these. Just recently a woman in Orlando, FL was attacked by a man who tried to rape her but was unsuccessful. Her door was locked but somehow he got in. There are ways in keeping your home safe and not breaking your wallet during the process.

If you have a sliding door make sure you have a bracket or brace to put in between the two doors, this way the doors cannot be opened from the outside. Having the main lock isn’t enough to keep burglars away.

You can also make a hole in the middle of the two doors and place a long nail in it to keep the doors from sliding open. You can do this yourself.
For your windows you can buy an alarm system for really cheap at any store, such as Radio Shack or Wal-Mart. This will go off as soon as someone tries to open it. You can also put a lock on the windows so that any burglar that tries to break in won’t be able to open it.
If your door has a lock already then try to get an additional lock to use from the inside.

Please don’t leave extra keys outside your home, many burglars spy on people and might see where you have put the keys.
You may want to also buy a motion detector light to place on the outside of your home. This way burglars won’t dare to approach the home knowing someone might see them.
Don’t open the door if you do not know who it is. Always ask and look outside to make sure you know who it is. If you are alone and do not know the person then do not open and try to contact a family member or neighbor to pass by.

Even people who have pets and think they are safe could be victims of break ins. Keeping your home safe is very important for you and your family. You must take serious measures to ensure safety in your home. Many break ins could have been avoided by trying some of the things I have listed on this article.

Do some research online for other ways you can keep your home safe. Even if you have to spend a little money it is all worth it in the end, knowing that your family will be safe.

I hope this article helps some people open there eyes in thinking that they are safe but in reality can be a victim like anyone else. Please put your family first and keep burglars out.
