Practices to Prevent Mold from Growing in Your Home

There are some general things that you can do around your home to prevent mold.

Air Out Your Home
When it is a nice day open up some windows and open the doors to the different rooms of you home to get some ventilation.

In many cases this is very impractical, although it is recommended for the purpose of any water that may spill. When you do water plants mind that you don’t spill and wipe up the water that you do, if you do, spill to prevent mold.

Wipe Up After You Mop

Dry Areas That You Spot Wash On the Carpet
If you wash an area of a carpet, if you had to spray some carpet cleaner on a stain, make sure that spot gets dry.

Take Out the Trash Daily or Separate Your Food Items You Throw Away
Now this particular practice that helps prevent mold applies more to garbage that has food items in it than garbage that doesn’t. One solution that you can do avoid throwing away your food items is to have a compost or place them in a separate smaller garbage that you could take daily.

Mind That Furniture Dries After Becoming Wet
If someone sits on your furniture after a bath or shower or after they have come in from swimming in a pool or cooling off with the sprinkler and sits on any piece of furniture make sure that it dries completely. Encourage people to sit on a towel.

Don’t Leave Your Cooler Full of Melted Ice Too Long
If you have a cooler of drinks or foods you will either want to change the water everyday or dump out the water at the end of the day to prevent mold from growing in the cooler.

Properly Address Leaks

Make Sure Your Mop and Mop Bucket Dry
Turn your mop upside down, either outside or in your bathtub, so it can dry before you store it away after using it. Make sure that all of the water is out of your mop bucket and turn it upside down so it dries properly too, preventing mold.
