How to Organize a Desk to Save Time

I hate it when I am sitting at my desk and can not find anything that I am looking for and it makes me angry because I know that it is somewhere on my cluttered desk, if only I could sift through all the paper work and the mess that sits on the very spot that I use to work every day.

After about an hour of going through papers that littered my desk, my husband walks in and tells me that maybe it is time that I organized my desk. I started thinking about it and decided that it was defiantly time that I got a little organized and kept it that way.

I had papers that dated back to almost a year ago and magazines and notebooks that were not stacked neatly, they were covering my desk enough that I couldn’t even find my agenda and I am lost without my agenda.

The first thing that I did was to put everything in a pile so that I could go through it. I was determined to get this sorted out. Stacking everything in a pile was easy and it made my desk look clean but now what was I suppose to do with all the junk that lay there in a pile in front of me? So, I did the logical thing and went through every piece of paper and through away all the stuff that I no longer needed any more.

I filed all of my important papers and documents into a drawer. You can also do this if you have a filing cabinet or a tote that you use for this. Remember that you should also clear out the stuff that is in the drawers and in your filing cabinet. You want to get everything organized and not just the top of your desk.

Don’t stop until you are finished. I am bad about stopping and working on something else. This is not a very good thing to do, when you do this you turn an hours worth of work into a few hours. Keep going until you are done so that you can make sure that your work is finished.

Once you get this done and go through everything, throw away the stuff that you don’t need anymore. If you keep it, it will only clutter your desk once again. You should also go through your notebooks and through away those pieces of paper that you used to scratch stuff down. Through away anything that you don’t need inside of your notebooks. This will cause your notebooks to become smaller and make it easier for you to find papers that you really need without having to sort through a hundred different pieces of paper.

Work at staying organized and keep your desk clean. If you take something out of your desk, put it back when you are done with it and label everything so that you can remember where it goes. Also clean your desk off at the end of the day. Cleaning your desk off, will cause you to have less clutter on it and it will help you to stay organized much better.
