Do you yearn for a bit of romance? Share more a bath or shower with your honey. It’ll save heat and water.

Was your AC running all summer long? If it’s a window AC, cover up the back with cardboard during the fall and winter. If you don’t, heat will slip out through it.

Since moist air retains heat, you’ll want to invest into a humidifier or adapt your heating system. It can actually lower your thermostat by 3 or 4 degrees. This will save you approximately 12 percent on your heating bill.

Don’t heat an empty house. Lower your thermostat when your out during the day. 65 degrees is a prime temperature. You can increase it to a higher temperature when everyone gets home.

Lower the temperature after everyone goes to bed. It’ll save your heat. Also, you’ll have a lower gas and electric bill.

Replace your furnace filters. Clean filters distribute heat more efficiently. Need a time line? Replace them every three months. In the interim, check them monthly and vacuum them out.

Clear debris from radiators, registers and ducts on a regular basis. This also will allow heat to flow more efficiently and save on your heating bill. You can use a vacuum or telescoping duster to clean.

If you own a gas-fired heating system, you should get it professionally cleaned and serviced once a year. This will help will keep it running effectively and efficiently. For oil-fired systems, you should get them cleaned professionally twice a year. Remember, cleaner is better.

The direction in which you rotate your ceiling fan can effect how the heat stays in your home. If you adjust your ceiling fan so it rotates counterclockwise, it will push the hot air from the ceiling down into the room. This will be perfect for winter. A clockwise rotation will do just the opposite causing the heat to leave the room.
