Decorative Ways to Store Firewood Indoors

I’ve always wanted a real fireplace complete with a brick or stone facade. On cold fall and winter mornings in my former home I occasionally smelled burning wood wafting through the air from other people’s fireplaces, and I must admit I felt a twinge of jealousy. A fireplace would make a home feel warm and cozy, and I longed for this luxury. My house was big, drafty, and cold, and a fireplace would have been a wonderful asset. A few months ago I moved into a townhouse apartment, and this luxury rental home has the fireplace I have always dreamed of.

I couldn’t wait to buy accessories for my beautiful brick fireplace, and in my quest I discovered many decorative ways to store small amounts of wood indoors. From basic farmhouse-style buckets to handcrafted copper buckets, the choices are truly endless, but so are the prices. The following information provides a number of decorative ways to store firewood indoors without spending a small fortune on decorative baskets and barrels. Here you’ll find decorative ways to store firewood that meet every budget, style, and preference. All it takes is a little ingenuity and the desire to turn something ordinary into something extraordinary. Use these ideas and you’ll be able to store your firewood indoors without investing in expensive store-bought holders.

A Basic Firewood Holder/Carrier

I couldn’t afford to spend fifty dollars or more on a decorative firewood holder to use indoors, but I needed something as soon as possible. I found a black firewood holder at Home Depot that is nothing more than a metal frame with a canvas carrier, and I paid about twenty dollars. This was before I discovered many other decorative ways to store firewood indoors, and I’m going to opt for one of the following ideas before the onset of winter.

How About a Small Whiskey Barrel or Wood Plank Planter?

I recently received a catalog in the mail filled with high-priced home dÃ?©cor and accessories, and it included fireplace supplies. This is when I began thinking of alternatives. The catalog displayed couple of beautiful wood farmhouse-style buckets, but I didn’t want to pay fifty dollars for the large bucket I need. This high-priced bucket looks like nothing more than a small half whiskey barrel that has been stained with dark pigment. A small wood plank planter or a small half whisky barrel would look just as good if it were stained, and this would save a considerable amount of money over buying a farmhouse-style basket especially for firewood.

Galvanized Metal Containers

Would you consider spending $269 for a decorative copper bucket to hold fireplace wood indoors? Many people would love this decorative bucket with a distinctive green patina, but I personally wouldn’t spend that much on something to hold firewood indoors. Instead I am considering a small galvanized tub that is typically used on a farm. It could easily be painted to look like copper for a fraction of the cost of the expensive firewood holder in the catalog. In the paint section of your local home improvement store you’ll find many faux finish paints, and this is a great way to get the look of copper without the high price.

Wicker Baskets

I’ve also considered buying a shallow wicker basket either with or without handles to hold fireplace wood indoors. A basket would look much more decorative than the black metal and canvas holder I purchased. I’ve noticed low-priced baskets in discount stores, and this will be one of my considerations when looking for decorative ways to hold firewood. Take a look online or in your local discount stores and craft stores, and consider a basket to hold your firewood indoors. Besides being practical, this option is also decorative and very impressive.
