Dangerous Household Chemicals to Avoid with a Pet Bird
You will really want to avoid using any types of strong chemicals inside of your home. Before you use chemicals, think about whether or not they will hurt your bird. I would suggest not using air fresheners, lighting candles, and avoid using harmful cleaning supplies inside of your home. Do not use the chemicals even if they are used in another room. They can still pose a danger to your pet bird.
You will want to make sure that if you let your bird out of the cage you do not have any poisonous plants inside of your home. Birds will often times land on plants and pick at them. You will want to make sure that there aren’t any plants located next to the bird’s cage where the bird could pull it pieces of the plant into the bird cage. You don’t want to take any chances so move plants away from the bird’s cage and put them somewhere where the bird cannot get at them. If you have poisonous plants you will want to get rid of them all together and give them to a neighbor, family or friend.
You will want to make sure that you don’t let the bird around water such as the toilet or dog water. Also don’t place boiling water on the stove if you happen to let your bird out of the cage. You will also want to make sure that you don’t overheat or burn things in your home. Do not use incents or burn your hair with a curling iron. Birds are sensitive to fumes such as smoke which can come from overheating your food, using a blow dryer and a number of other things. You will want to avoid using these things all together or do not get them heated up to the point where they will produce smoke or fumes.
